I'm only 7 months into my sentence and the orthodontist mentioned that next adjustment in 8 weeks we would start on the "finishing touches". Don't get me wrong I'm under no illusion that this means they will be off really soon but does this sound like a good sign considering I was given a 18-24 month sentence?

I know I should ask these things at the ortho, and my husband always gives me a list of questions to ask when I'm there but then I get there and realise TEETH. PAIN. OUCH. GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!! And I spend the whole time hanging on for dear life. I'm a sook when it comes to teeth, hence I'm 32 with braces

If you're only 7 months in, I don't think they're coming out soon. Sometimes those little things they have to finish can take up months.
Just ask your ortho next time lol. I know how you feel about the pain, especially when they're tightening it.

You probably arent done after 7 months! I noticed the biggest changes in the first year of wearing my braces. The "finishing touches" took a year and a few months to complete. Even then, my teeth werent 100% perfect (I'm ok with that). Its the minor movements (closing gaps, making sure your midline is perfect, your bite) that take forever.

I think the phrase "finishing touches" may be a bit misleading. After about 6-7 months with a round "rookie" wire to get the teeth more into an arch alignment and getting them to stand straight, I graduated to a rectangular wire -- a finishing wire I think is what the ortho referred to it as -- and I had that same wire for the next 30 months. So yeah, I guess I was finishing. Sirwired has offered a great explanation of round vs rectangular wires in one of his excellent posts, and it would probably be worthwhile to cull through them.

I was really hoping it would mean my sentence would be closer to 18 months than 24. I have another appointment in 7 weeks so I'll see if I remember to ask then in more detail about how things are progressing.

I've had the thick wire on the bottom for almost 4 months and they put the thick one on top teeth yesterday. I'm in a world of pain!!
