Is 15 too old for a Quad Helix/Palate expander?

#1 Post by katinho »

Hi! I'm really sorry because I know this is a board for adults but I thought I'd ask this question anyway since you all seem to know a lot on this topic and if any of you have experiences with non-surgical expansion working then maybe I can too!

I spoke to my ortho about my crossbite and narrow upper jaw and he said it was minor but would still try a quad helix. He said he "couldn't promise my bite would get better but he could promise it wouldn't get worse." I'm a bit worried we'll pay money and get nothing from it, I don't think he's taking X Rays so is there any other way of knowing if my midpalatal suture is still open? Thank you!

Also, I turned 15 in January if that makes any difference :)
Thank you very much in advance!!

As a male, you still have several years of growth left.

The midpalatal suture is not visible on ordinary x-rays.
