Curved tooth roots

#1 Post by Amsies »

Hi everyone,

I forgot to ask my ortho this the other day, so thought I would consult here for opinions. My full head x ray showed that many of the roots of my teeth are quite dramatically curved, in some cases twisting together or deviating off the the back of my mouth. My wisdom tooth root actually turns 90 degrees and travels straight towards my ear. He said this would impact extractions, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of how curved roots may impact the movement of the teeth during orthodontic work.

Thanks :-)

No idea, but theoretically the general rule would apply here - if there is pressure on the bone the bone gives way to the tooth's root and empty space is filled with a new bone. So, that should not be different that any other tooth movement in the bone. But I just got my braces a few days ago and not a doctor so can't say for sure. Check out "Wolff's law" on Wikipedia.
