Is it normal to have numb front teeth?

Hey guys, I got my braces last February, so I'm going into my third month with them now. I also have bite blockers in my back upper teeth to prevent my front teeth from touching the bottom teeth. However, my front teeth have been numb ever since getting my braces on 2 months ago. I can't physically bite into anything. I always have to break it off and put it into my mouth. Is this normal? Is it because my front teeth haven't felt the sensations of my bottom teeth in so long? I'm just really worried that when it comes time to getting my braces off, that it will hurt when my front teeth meet my bottom teeth...Will this numbness go away once the braces come off?

Hi, I too got braced in February so we have begun our journey at the same time :) I know that everyone experiences different aches and pains as everyone's teeth and treatments is different! I also have bite turbos on my upper back teeth, my teeth were also numb right after being braced, however, for me this lasted maybe 4 weeks maximum, my teeth now feel like they did before I were braced and I am able to bite into most things I did pre braces with no pain. Since then i have only had the numb feeling for a day or two after my first tightening which was around 3 weeks ago. I would say if there is no difference in the numb feeling in maybe a week or so then it could be worth giving your ortho a call, if only for your own peace of mind, after all we have enough to deal with with all this gear in our mouth without having to worry about anything else!

Yea the time period seems a bit odd... When I got mine my teeth hurt for about 5 days maximum... with slight numbness for the following week. I'm not a dentist but I'd get that checked out.

I never thought about it but read your post and realized my front teeth do feel a little numb. I'm not worried about it, but if you are talk to your ortho. Trust me, they get a zillion questions from every new patient and are used to it.

Mine were numb for quite a while too. About a month ago, I decided to start using them to put pressure on my lower lip from time to time. Like you, I thought that perhaps me just not using them was slowing down them feeling "normal" again. Either coincidentally, or because of that, they'd started feeling a lot more normal/solid.

...of course, I just had another adjustment on Monday, and things digressed a bit. They two front teeth are are a bit wiggly and I even already have a newly-expanding tiny gap between my two front teeth just since then too. :-+

Isn't this all so exciting?! Haha!

I had that numb feeling for about six weeks when i first got braced. I think it lasted so long because i was afraid to bite into anything because of the pain. I finally broke down and bought one of those bite wafers from dentakit and started using that to get the soreness to go away. When you bite down on it is supposed to increase the blood flow to your gums and in turn help with the soreness. It actually worked!! After using that for a few days i was able to start biting into things. I think the more I babied my teeth the longer the soreness lasted. Now when I have my wires changed and things tightened I take a day or two of soft foods and then remember that I have to start using my teeth again or the soreness will last longer. Hope that helps!!
