I am about to get braces in 15 days mainly because of spaced teeth and overjet. I am 30 and really scared because I am missing a front teeth. Actually I have a fake teeth with a fake palate ( sorry i dont know the english name for it) my orthodontiSt told me that he will use the fake teeth only ie without the palate and put the bracket on that tooth like for all my other teeth.
I am very scared that this teeth could fell in public.
Do somebody else here is in this situation ?

I think you're referring to a bridge (artificial tooth attached to plastic that looks like your gums), as far as gluing an artificial tooth to your braces there shouldn't be any issue with it just falling off spontaneously. I've read that the glue bond isn't quite as strong as it is to actual tooth enamel, but it shouldn't be a situation where it just falls off from normal pressures.

I googled bridge and no picture looked like what i am wearing. After research I think it is called a a flipper.
I hope you are rigth and that this tooth will stay glued if I dont put pressure on it and I will not!
I get my braces on in a few days, I will keep on updating this thread

Hello! I am missing two teeth in the front of my mouth and it has been no problem at all. He glued a bracket onto each fake tooth and then used a wire ligature to attach it to my arch wire. It was a bit of a pain when I had that very first round wire because they would rock back and forth slightly on the wire, but it's not been a problem at all since then. I have never felt like I was at risk for them falling off at all. If anything, they are more securely attached than my other teeth because of the wire versus rubber ligature. FYI, I generally don't use my front teeth much to bite off food, but I have not used them at all since I got braces just because it feels a little weird.

Also, what are your plans for the missing tooth after you get your braces off? If you are looking for something more permanent than your flipper but don't want to go the implant direction, I've had good luck with Maryland bridges.

Thank you so much for sharing these informations, I really needed this Today ! I am getting my braces on tuesday but I was about to change my mind again. To make a long story short : I first decided to get braces in 2011 and I changed my plans so many times because of this tooth and because of the fear that it could fall or move and be too noticeable. I cant tell how many ortho I have seen and none of them never had a case like mine. That is why I was so scared but your testimony gives me confidence. Thank you again.

My dentist told me that I should get an implant, he never mentionned any other options. How long since you have your bridge ?

You are very welcome! Don't change your mind- just go for it! You won't regret it!!! And I don't find that the fake teeth attached to my braces are any more or less noticeable than my previous "permanent" fake teeth.

An implant is by far the best option! I can't bring myself to get one because it freaks me out a little bit, but it's the most reliable and long-lasting choice. I had the Maryland bridges from age 14-31. One of them fell out twice over the course of that time. I had them removed to get braces and am having new ones made for when I get the braces off. But yes- in my opinion, Maryland bridges are better than having a flipper for a front tooth, but an implant is better than either of those.

My top braces are on since yesterday. My orthodontist chose to put a very thick wire to prevent the fake tooth from rotating. He told me that because of this thick wire from the beginning, the length of the traitement will be shorter but I will need lots of painkilker. So far, it doesnt hurt at all.

You are rigth! I am really surprised, it looks more natural now.
