I had my top two premolars pulled about 34 hours ago and my extraction sites have resulted to this. To anyone who's also had teeth pulled out, is this white layer over the blood clot normal? I can't tell if it's a bacterial community, food debris (maybe both), or tissue that is supposed to be there? (I hope it's the latter). I do remember my dentist telling me to "clean the area using a wet gauze" but I'm too scared to do that and I don't have gauze anyway.

As for pain, it doesn't really hurt. The most painful part until now, was the injections. Anyways, I've blabbed on long enough. Please tell me if I should clean the area and how to do it. Thanks!

I think that's normal - I had an extraction on Thursday, and mine looked a bit greyish the following day, I'm still not touching the extraction site when brushing, as I'm paranoid about damaging it.

Yes totally normal! The white/greyish stuff is basically your mouth's version of a scab - try not to disturb it as much as you can as it is helping to keep a protective layer over the blood clot. Just be gentle when brushing around the extraction areas and it'll be fine I was constantly worried I had food and other debris in my extraction sites too but a swish around with some water should be sufficient at getting any smaller bits out of there.

Also, don't worry if the white/grey stuff starts to grow.. mine got *really* big - it was pretty gross, but it's normal. They will fall off in their own time when the gum is sufficiently healed underneath.

100% normal, the clots will turn entirely gray soon and they may start to stink, which is also normal and you shouldn't keep swishing vigorously to try and kill the odor. You definitely don't want them coming out before they should.

Yes, it's fibrin, which is what makes the clot work.

hi, had my extractions two days ago. I also have that film over the site, but today brown blood started flowing out from corner of one site. It had bad smell but now I think it's pure blood. There is no pain there. Is it infection?
