9 months later, the challenge really begins

Well.

Do you know when you just don't have any idea about the real seriousness of something and you just go along with things until finally something clicks inside your head and you're like 'damn, this is not normal'?

Allow me to explain. For years I've had a crossbite, but I didn't know that was serious or that it could affect my health (as in, my teeth could start to erode in a few years), so since I only had like 2 or 3 stray teeth, I always refused the idea of wearing braces.

Finally, my wisdom teeth came in and the crossbite became much worse, to the point that one of my teeth (I don't know their names or positions, so sorry) is actually completely turned to the inside as opposed to being, you know, outside. That's when I decided that maaaaybe I should get braces. So I did, 9 months ago.

To start things with, I only got braces on the 6 front teeth and then the two immediately after them on the left side (again, sorry I don't know). Turns out, my teeth were more crooked than I thought and one of them took FOREVER to line up with the rest (he was backwards and turned completely to the side). I had springs for months and months, I had two wires at the same time, I had a painful wire twisted around a bracket and the main wire, I don't even know.

Eventually, and because I take pictures of my progress periodically, I started to realize that even though my teeth were straight(er), they weren't in a straight line, meaning, one side was higher than the other, but again, I thought: 'I'm sure it's fine and if the dentist hasn't said anything, it's because it's supposed to be that way'. Right? Wrong.

And that is how, 9 months later, I find myself actually suffering because I now have bite blocks AND hooks on my first and second molars of my right side (yes I looked it up), the one that's too high.

And it's so bad! If I thought I had been in pain from when I first got braces and everything was cut up and swollen, it's nothing compared to this because UGH it's so frustrating when you get used to eating everything again and suddenly you CAN'T. It's like one step forwards, two steps back!

Anyway, just wanted to share this with you because I had NO idea this was coming and I never seem to understand just how serious my situation is!

AH, the pain is big. And it's staying until January (at least!)

That's quite a saga, Ana. Did your ortho just not notice, or was this an expected development? I suspect the former, which is a shame. The good news, I guess, is that you are getting it addressed but have to endure an extra dose of torture.
I enjoyed the opening of your post; it is so true. What seemed like a good idea months earlier now seems at best, questionable. And you are in the dreaded middle zone, in which termination will leave you much worse off than when you started. But, it sounds like you are making good progress! Best of luck to you.

I think it was an expected development for him, but not for me, although I can't say for sure.

For example, I was supposed to have full top braces just one month after putting the first pieces on, but it's been 9 months and only now did I get one extra piece (not including the hooks). The worst tooth is still unbraced.

Still, I believe in February (1 year later) I'll even have bottom braces!

Ahah thank you!
