Bar in roof of mouth

#1 Post by Angstymelon »

Hi my name is Charlotte, I've just had a metal bar on the roof of my mouth. i have an 11mm overbite that has reduced by 4 mm over the last 6 months due to twin block braces. Because of this my dentist decided against surgery. im struggling to eat as my tongue is very sensitive and irritated. Can someone help me? i haven't eaten today because its just too painful.

Hi Charlotte,
It sounds like they may have installed a TPA (transpalatal arch). Does it go from one molar band to the other? A picture would help, but I see you don't have the green light yet to post pictures. If it is indeed a TPA, that's used to stabilize the molars during certain movements of your teeth. It is quite annoying at first, but as with most other orthodontic devices, you will get used to it in a matter of time. For me, it was about 3 weeks before I had no more tongue sores and reduced lisp. The tongue sores do occasionally come back. Soft foods should help, and I'd recommend Listerine to help keep the sores from becoming infected.

I'm going through the TPA razor blade torture too. The only solid I've had is a paracetamol. I've just been having high calorie drinks through a straw. It's the second day and I'm in so much pain.

It's a struggle because I'm a foodie and I've got a meal for someone's birthday next week! I'm going to be that weirdo eating soup... Beauty is pain, DEFINITELY.

Ho TPA friends, how are you doing? I'm at my first day with a molar rotator, I can't talk and when I do is making me gag. I can barely swallow water...I have to admit that I'm quite scared, I know that it's just day 1 but I have to come back to work on monday and I really don't know what to do.
