Decision time - Damon clear vs. Damon metal?

Does anyone know which makes your teeth look less yellow (mine are already fairly yellow from 20 years of coffee drinking)? Is one more comfortable than the other when it comes to the brackets rubbing on the inside of the lips/cheeks? I have a deep overbite and am anticipating this being an issue. Asked my ortho and she said I'll need to choose between one kind or the other (versus doing a combination as some patients do). Thank you!

I have Damon Clear and I'm really self-conscious of how yellow the brackets have become. If I did it all over again I think I would go for metal brackets.

I got the damon clear and metal. I paid an extra $345 for the top 10 teeth to be clear. I would say what rubs against my cheeks is the metal and I have had no problems with it nothing with it. I actually didn't know the damon clear would get yellow? I've seen photos and didn't see that? maybe if your a coffee drinker or something but I honestly never seen photos or read about that.
MissEVAH how long have you had yours on for?

I've had them on for over 18 months now and they yellowed right away. They replaced one bracket a few months in and I could really see the difference. White elastic power chains will also turn yellow very easily. I've sometimes gone for silver ones which sort of defeats the purpose of clear brackets.

This was very helpful to know, thank you. Hope your experience is going well in spite of the unexpected bracket yellowing. Are you a coffee or tea drinker?

My top 6 were clear. They didn’t stain but the white powerchains did. *the clear ones are also a lot harder to get off. They hurt quite a bit because they kept crumbling when my ortho was trying to take them off.

I had Damon clear for 18 months and they did not discolour at all. And I drank plenty of tea, coffee and red wine and ate curry.
They were not completely invisible, but much more discreet than metal braces and perfectly comfortable after the first couple of days. I was very happy with them.
But this is a very personal choice and there is no right and wrong answer.
Good luck whichever you choose.

I had Damon clear top brackets fitted in 2016 and found that my top lip wouldn't cover the brackets. I also had lots of problems with brackets coming off. In the end I had them removed and replaced with the damon metal brackets at the appointment when my bottom brace was fitted. I wish I had done this at the begging as there much more comfortable and haven't had anymore problems.

It is definitely a difficult decision to make. I don't mind the look of the metal (easy for me to say since they're not in my mouth yet) and if it's going to be easier come time to remove them then I'm all for that. But on the other hand I feel like I may be taken more seriously in the corporate world/workplace with the clears.

I have Damon metal on the bottom, no choice in that. My ortho told me she does mostly Damon clear on top for adults. I was worried my lip would get hung up on them because they are twice the size of the metal brackets, but she talked me into them. Indeed my lip got stuck on top of them and that drove me crazy for the first six months, but I eventually got used to them. 2.5+ years in and I don't notice them any more. As for staining from coffee etc., they do not stain, a good brushing makes them nice and white after drinking coffee or wine.

I got Damon metal (Insignia). The recommendation came from my ortho, based on my treatment plan, as metal brackets are smaller, and more maneuverable for him.

I was also somewhat apprehensive about what others at work may say about me getting braces. I'm mostly dreading having to explain why actually. But since getting them 4 months ago (I got full traditional metal braces), only a handful of people outside of my immediate team noticed them and none of them really cared. So I would say, don't worry about others not taking you seriously, cos most probably people would either don't notice or cared that you got them.
