Extractions Vs. IPR

I'm new to the board, so I realize this question has probably been addressed many times before. I'm 51, in my 20s I had an ortho consult who wanted to remove one of my bottom incisors because of crowding. I didn't have the treatment done. Fast forward 30 years.....I decided that now is the time I really want to do this. I just had a consult, fully expecting the ortho to want extractions. He said that he doesn't feel extractions would be necessary, we can most likely go with shaving the teeth (IPR) which I had never heard of...of course we haven't done the impressions, x-rays etc yet, but he said he wouldn't have even mentioned it if he didn't feel certain we could do it. Anyone have any thoughts on or experiences with IPR?

IPR is basically the stripping of enamel between teeth to make space and help the teeth fit better together. If you only have mild crowding/alignment issues, then IPR would probably make enough space. But if you have quite severe crowding or alignment issues, then IPR may not be enough.
Here's a short clip on youtube here that demonstrates IPR: https://youtu.be/jJvjpwQ9S1k

Perhaps consider getting a few opinions from different orthos and see what each says?
