Teeth moved 2 weeks before debonding?!

Braced: Sept 16th, 2016
Scheduled to be debonded: Sept 21st, 2018
D-Day is on its way and I'm excited, nervous, , the works! Bit of a problem on the go, though...
On August 17th I was heading home, driving and munching on M&M's (just plain chocolate)... I bit down with my back molars and POP - wire comes out of the tube and breaks off a bracket in the process. FFS, right?? 5 weeks to the day from getting these suckers off and I bust a bracket. So, I call my Ortho and leave a message. Monday comes and they tell me to come in the next day and they'll fix it - no biggie. Turns out the wire was short on that end and bending it that little bit made it slide out of the tube. They decide to leave that back molar on its own and snip the wire close to the next molar, putting a bit of glue on the end to avoid any scratching or sliding.
Fast forward to Sept 7th and I realize that my FRONT TEETH HAVE MOVED. 2 years of this stuff and my front teeth are revolting again NOW? At the end?? I called them and once again, they had me come in to have it looked at. Sure enough, they've shifted - possibly due to that back tooth being disengaged. They put a bend in the wire to push them back into place and confirmed I'll still be debonded on the 21st. When I questioned their ortho-terminology-chit-chat to each other it turned out that the plan is to put me in a hawley retainer (top only - bottom would still get a permanent and an essex) if the issue isn't fixed by Friday, and then fit me for a top essex down the road when everything is in line.
Has anyone ever had to have this done? If so, was it a regular hawley retainer? Or one of the spring hawley's I'm seeing on YouTube (I wanna say Inman??)? I'm wound for sound with anxiety right now. So nervous about what will happen and how the hell they'll fix this!
