I have an appointment to submit approval for surgery and as it gets closer I have worries. I should’ve thought it threw that my surgery probably wouldn’t be approved since I have Medicaid insurance. Ever since my braces have been on my bite has gotten much worse like they said it would, and I can’t eat (I couldn’t before but now it’s worst) I also have problems with my speech. If my surgery isn’t approved and the braces come off will they go back to how they were or stay the same?

If you wear your retainers as prescribed by your orthodontist, the risk of your teeth shifting is mitigated.

it really depends. There's a user on this board that debraced and wanted relapse. he said that he relapsed in 3 months or so

I had to debrace early. I had braces on for 7 months. It's been a month or so since i debraced. Desparately want to relapse. But my teeth didn't move one bit!

There is no guarantee if intentional relapse can bring your teeth back to exactly where they were before. They may move, but they could also not move or they could move part way and settle into a different bite than you began with. That said, if you are prepared that surgery isn't going to be approved, you should discuss with your ortho re a change in treatment plan to settle for an outcome that could give you a more functional and comfortable bite as a compromise to getting jaw surgery. This would be more predictable.

I'm the one who wanted relapse as I hated my teeth after 2 useless years of braces. The work wasn't done but my former Ortho was an incompetent idiot and I was so fed up with her that I asked to get the braces removed and refused retainers. Amongst many stupid things (pointless extractions for one) she leveled my upper front teeth by their tips, ruined my smile and refused to change this despite my insistent complaints. In about 3 months or so my teeth relapsed about 50% and stayed there until now, and my bite improved but not enough. Despite all the theoretical problems with my teeth (class II, deep bite, blablabla...) I actually had none that I was even aware of, except for my croocked upper front teeth that were wearing out my lower ones. It was the ONLY thing I asked to get fixed and was tricked and lied into getting full treatment including extractions and what not, only to end much, much worse than before braces. So now I need braces again to close an extraction gap, fix my bite and see if that also helps with the TMJ problems that I never had before in 38 years of life. Braces were my deepest regret ever.. but I guess that was entirely my ortho's fault. It won't go that way with the new one, that's for sure. Fool my once, shame on you, but I won't be fooled twice!
