Is this usually common?

I just came back from my adjustment and was told not to wear elastics anymore. YAY! However, I've been wearing elastics on both sides for only a month. I started wearing elastics since January, but that was only on one side to pull down a canine.
My question:
Is it normal to wear elastics on both sides for just a month?
My ortho said that I never have to wear those things ever again since it fixed my bite in one month. He said that I wore them too well...It's not that I'll miss wearing them (I won't), but I always thought you have to wear elastics for awhile (like 6 months or something).
How long have you guys been in elastics?

I've been wearing them for 5 months....but I haven't always been as dilligent as I should have been....like the month I lost my elastics (how did I do that???) halfway through the month.... >_>

Hey! I actually don't know anything about elastics, I've never had them. But I was curious about how they used elastics to bring down your canine. Does that mean you had an impacted canine? I do and am just curious. Thanks1

I dunno if it's the same, but I'm assuming she had canines like mine? If you look at the poor picture i have as an avatar, you can see that my canines were in front of other teeth and raised up high out of my arch.
They pulled my canines down by having me wear elastics in a triangle formation...the top of the triangle being the offensive canine, and then the other two points being my lower canine and the hook on my back molar.

Nope, I don't and never had an impacted canine. It's like how alexa said it. I have a small mouth, and at one point, I had all 32 teeth. Small mouth + 32 teeth = crowding...as a result, i had to take out 8 teeth (wisdom included). After extractions, my ortho told me to wear an elastic on the top canine to bring it down.
alexa, have your canines come fully down yet? I remembered mine came down within 2-3 months. Losing your elastics? Hehe, it happens. Just take more than one bag when you're at the ortho's. Hey, you're paying for the treatment, take as many as you want

I do it since my boyfriend has a habit of playing with them.

So far I've only had to wear one elastic on one side of my mouth.
What he wanted to correct was done in a month.
I'm far from over with elastics that I know...but they use them in
a variety of configerations and for varying amounts of time.

Yeah..mine were down in 2-3 months. I just hit the sixth month mark and was presented powerchains as my reward.
Here's how they looked after my consultation:
