I've finally done it!!!

#1 Post by dye4pooh »

Hello everyone, I've posted a few times before in the last year. Let me update you. I'm 35 mother of 3 with an overbite and crowded teeth.
I need to have braces for 3 years and ortho surgery to move my lower jaw forward. I have been on this journey for a year and thursday, I finally made my appointments to be braced , i will get my braces the first 3 weeks in october spacers, next top braces and the next week bottom. I'm nervous but excited. I have to get 4 teeth pulled and 1 wisdom cut out the week before spacers are put in. I'm concerned about peoples reactions to all these gaps with no braces to cover them at least a little. did anyone else get braces after teeth were pulled? I'm very self concious anyway and that is what I'm worried about most.. As for jaw surgery it is out to insurance and the surgeon is confident we can get an approval for my condition, But I'm taking it one step at a time and thinking about braces now and I'll worry about the other later. I would love to have the surgery but if insurance wont pay, I cant afford it. Thanks for all the help

don't worry dye4pooh. you will be fine. I also had 2 wisdom teeth extracted (because they were impacted), and 4 bicuspids extracted before getting the braces. I had to wait for 16 days after the extraction when I finally got my braces. I was also concerned about gaps being visible for these 16 days...but days pass by so fast that I did not even realize :)

I have 4 normal teeth extracted (not wisdom teeth) extracted then a week later got the braces on.

I was really self conscious (and after almost a month with braces I still am) but people's reactions have been all positive. Most people are only curious as to why I've got braces at my age (mind you, im only 22).

Good luck!
