advice on elastics?

Hi everyone,

About a month ago I got braces for the second time (my teeth arn't that bad at all except I have a decent overbite). Already I have seen some good changes and I have been thinking that my 18 month estimate seems way too long. Actually I couldn't possibly see how my situation could take even a year... lol is my orthodontist crazy?

I know that I will need elastics to fix my bite and I was wondering if anyone could tell me when orthodontists generally use them. As in, after how many months do people usually get elastics and for how long? I am actually looking forward to getting them because they are the only things that I can control. I really want to get this over with as fast as possible and I just hate this slow pace. I was told to visit every 7 weeks... arg its driving me crazy... dont see why we couldn't just make it every month like when I had braces the first time.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I'd appreciate your feedback

Hello! I can relate.. this is my 2nd time in braces and mine is for my overbite and crossbite. They straightened my teeth and all the first time. Anyway to make a long story short, I'm in my 11th month of treatment, and I got my first set of elastics (and powerchains) in my 10th month. I think it varies for each case, but thats mine. Good luck!!

This is my first time in braces (and hopefully the last!), and I got my elastics at 10 months as well. I have an estimated 24-month treatment plan though, so I'd imagine that your course will be a bit different...

Cheers,
Erica :)

I have an overbite and some crowding. I got braces last month and have been advised to use elastics since the beginning. I think It is because I do not have major crowding, so overbite is the major part of the tretment which means I have to use elastics at a sooner stage.
