In another thread I was trying to refer to this and I don't know what the right word is...

On the bands on the molars on the side near the cheek, there is stuff; and on the side near the tongue, there is stuff. What are the words to reference these sides? If I use "'inside' or 'outside' of the band" then I could be meaning the side next to the tooth and the side not next to the tooth. Same for "interior" and "exterior." Am I making this clear enough for anyone to understand what I'm asking?

There must be proper terms to reference these surfaces of the tooth.

The cheek side of a tooth is called buccal or facial (particularly anterior teeth). The tongue side is called lingual on the lower, palatal on the upper. Usually, buccal or lingual is all you need to say. Hope that makes sense!
