are you using the macro setting on the camera? If not, try turning that on for close-up pics. That should do it.

I take my own picture using the bathroom mirror:
The flash is tilted upwards so it wont reflect!
If you cannot tilt your flash wrap a piece of a nylon pantyhose around it. then it wont reflect either! The nylon also helps if someone else is taking your mouth close up!

Check out the cables you got together with the camera. Hopefully one of them will be a TV cable. Mine (Canon) does have it. If you connect your camera to the TV, you'll be able to see better what you're photographing.

Also some technical tips - remember the light (sunny days are the best :) ). Also if you're using the AUTO mode, remember to hold the button long enough for the camera to focus on the object photographed. But I guess the macro option is the key. What camera do you have?

Hope this helps...

I find it easier to take a clear picture in macro made, with the camera right infront of my face, about 4 inches away. If you sit at a table and rest your elbows on it, it will be very easy to take a clear picture, your arms won't shake as much that way.

I usually have to take at least 20 pictures to get 1 or 2 that look good enough to show other people, so don't worry if you are taking lots and don't get a perfect one. It takes practice.
