Bored, and sick of my braces

#1 Post by cookie »

To be honest I feel a bit bad posting a negative topic on here, but it's how I'm feeling just now.

After today's adjustment - which lasted all of 2 minutes - a quick look, a "oh, they're not moving very quickly are they?" from the ortho, and four 4 link powerchains, a "come back in 5 weeks" and away I went (no new ligs or anything).

I guess I'm just feeling a bit down, almost a year into treatment, that my bottom teeth are moving so s-l-o-w-l-y, when all I want is for my teeth to look great and for these things to be off

I know it'll be worth it in the end, and I know there are people who have had their braces for way longer than me, but I guess I just wanted to vent, and I'm sure I'm probably not the only one out there to feel this way sometimes :(

Hi Cookie,
I can definately relate to the way you are feeling. I got my braces about 9 months ago. For a while things moved, so I didn't mind the braces or the pain that much. Now nothing is moving. I keep going to the ortho and they do nothing really except tell me to come back in a month. It is very anoying. Also, I look at other people's teeth and wish mine were white and beautiful like theirs. I hope that our teeth start to move and we get done quickly. Good luck!

Tell me about it, I'm okay now that I'm finally nearing the end of treatment, but just to give you an idea of how little visible movement there was in my teeth over the period of 38 months now, here is the before in Septmeber 2002. It's the only pic I've got, I know it doesn't give you a good idea but you can see my bottom teeth before I got my braces on them-they're fine and the top ones are good minus the unbracketed baby canine-that's where the major movement was, but it's still not really that visible.

Believe me you're not alone...that's what has been so annoying about my treaqtment (and I know a lot of other people's as well). IF my teeth were really crooked and awful I could deal, but I mean you can see the before pic for yourself-they looked pretty much the same as they do now.

Sometimes knowing you're not alone helps, at least it does for me, hang in there! It'll be worth it, braces are temporary but a beautiful smile is for life.

Well, Evelyn, at least your teeth look pretty good.

I cannot tell you how extrmely frustrated I am at this point. It's been one full year, and I've seen absolutely NO change. I am really going crazy at this point. Last night I couldn't even sleep because of my frustration.

I keep looking in the mirror several times a day. I've done that for 365 days in a row for nothing. My fury is boiling over and I seriously wonder if my dentist is quaified to do his job.

I am at that point now. At first things were really changing and moving, now I have developed a serious deep bite and it seems like my lower anteriors will never go back down and level out. If anything it looks like it's getting worse.

Everyone says it gets worse before better, but it still "bites"! It is really scary not knowing what the end result will look like.

Just try to keep on a positive note.
BE HAPPY!

I definitely know how you guys feel!

For about the first 9 months after getting braces I would go into my ortho every 6 weeks and he would just change ligs! :( For about the last 9 months of treatment he worked on bringing two impacted cuspids down from the roof of my mouth and only now is one of them attached to the wire with a bracket and the other one still hasn't been seen! :x I feel like my teeth are moving so slowly! Finally after about 19 months I got bottom braces on!

My best friend just got her braces off after about 1 year and 8 months (she's been counting) today! It made me so jealous because I've been in braces for about as long as she has and I only now just got bottom braces in a 4 year sentence and she's done! :x

I guess the best we can do is just wait and hope our teeth start moving!
Good luck!

-Hannah

Thanks for all the great responses  It's great to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. My treatment seems to be really "hit or miss" at the moment - some months I see movement, but for the past 3/4 months I'm not seeing anything. Maybe if my ortho was a bit more forthcoming about what was meant to be happening then my expectations would be more realistic. Hopefully at my next appointment I'll get a chance to express this.
