Only the top for now, we are trying to make room for my two teeth that are overlapping. If successful, and I hope it is, then I will get the bottoms on in about 6 months. If not, I will have to have yet another extraction on the top. My molars are twisted, and my ortho is trying to straighten them in hopes to create room for the teeth in the front.
I may need another single extraction on the bottom, but we won't know for certain until she can make a decision based on the progress of the top teeth.
Worst case, I will have 11 teeth on the top, and 13 on the bottom, but at least they will be straight!
Hi! Congrats on getting your braces on! I got mine on today! So we are in the same boat sorta... I am wondering when the braces will start to feel more normal....

Hey djevik! your teeth look a lot like mine, just mirrored! I have a shifted midline and one overlapping incisor as well. There are no extractions planned! Now they opened a small gap next to my centrals to move them to the middle and create space for my incisor. What's your plan?
Today I received a copy of the letter my ortho sent to my dentist:

Clinical Findings:
Class II division 1 with mesial migration of the molars. The maxillary 1st bicuspids were extracted at a younger age for orthodontic purposes. He is also missing the 3rd molars and has bilateral crossbites. The maxillary midline is to the right of the facial and the maxillary molars and bicuspids are rotated.
Treatment recommendations:
1. Braces upper first to derotate the molars and bicuspids. I will be doing this to try to acheive some space to make room for the maxillary cuspid.
2. Once molars and bicuspids have been derotated, we will evaluate to see if we have enough room to move the cuspid into its natural posistion without damaging any other teeth. If there is a possibility that space is not available or movement will harm adjacent teeth, we will refer Jeff for the extraction of the cuspid (#6). Since you do not have a preference as to which tooth is extracted, we will concentrate on the anterior symmetry with the four incisors in place.
3. There may be some space distal to #11 and distal to #7 (extraction spaces). Hopefully, we will be able to make room for replacements because closing those spaces could increase the possibility of the anterior crossbite of the incisors. If there is a chance of the incisors moving into a crossbite situation, I would prefer to leave the extration spaces open. One thing that may prevent 100% closure also is the fact that the teeth have been extracted for quite some time. The bone has atrophied to a point where closure poses a problem. We will keep you informed of the expected results.
4. The bilateral crossbites will remain. The only way to achieve optimal occlusal results would be to recommend surgical intervention which Jeff prefers not to have. Our goal is to achieve functional, esthetic, and stable results regardless of the compromises that we face during his treatment.
With elastics, we will also attempt to correct the maxillary midline discrepancy as much as possible.
