Headgear?

I asked my ortho when he presented my treatment plan, "What 'gadgets' like rubber bands or headgear will be involved?" No headgear for me, but rubber bands are "likely" and coil springs are for sure.
That's a lesson I learned from my 3 consults. I found that I needed an ortho with whom I was comfortable asking any question - no matter how silly I thought they might be.

Headgear was something I didn't think to ask about. Thank you for mentioning it! I work as a paramedic (12+ hour shifts at a time) and the job is very physical, so i wouldn't be able to wear it more than 10-11 hours a day on the days I work. I'll be sure to talk to my ortho about that at my final consult.
What is headgear typically used to correct? (overbite, underbite, just moving molars?)

At my first consult, they had this whole form that they filled out. It's got a checklist for various problems, treatment options, blanks to fill in for other estimates, and the next step. Headgear was one of the options available for them to check off in the treatment section, as well as braces, extractions, appliances, expanders, etc. So it seems like that's something that they can generally anticipate from the beginning. Fortunately, this guy said nothing about headgear.
