unusual headgear?

#1 Post by nimo »

I was looking up orthodontic stuff on google images and came across this:

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this and was wondering if anyone has had to use it, or if it's really uncommon. Btw, it was a Chinese website, so maybe this is something done in other countries.

Its called a reverse-pull headgear or a facemask. They are used for Class III (underbite) cases to encourage growth in the upper jaw. I think they are exclusively used in children becuase they do rely on growth.

Somebody here on this site has this headgear but I can't remember who...

Dakota Fanning also has it. She actually wore it on Leno.

Isn't she the cutest thing? I love her braces updates on Leno. She has done more than one. I couldn't believe it when she whipped out that headgear. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be. Thank God my ortho did not believe in headgear for adults!

Dakota Fanning is very cute and she sure has guts to wear her headgear on Leno! Good for her! I can say I'm thankful I don't have to though! I didn't know she even had braces!
