Lucyloop, I'm sure you'll have a beautiful smile after the metal's gone. I know how you're feeling since I always doubt things, but your teeth will be great!!!! I've always hated my smile because of all the crowding. Some people were mean enough to tease me too, but we're all going through this whole process to have a beautiful smile and hopefully gain some confidence. Don't worry, we're all in it together!

I honestly can't even imagine as far as to even picture my teeth straight, that alone seems like the "impossible dream". I have crowding like nobodies business, let alone the discoloration and old unsightly fillings.

But, I guess we must see it as our smile being our own, so no matter what we end up with we have to "work it". Unless you happen to be rich and can afford something like a full set of veneers. But overall I plan on being happy with whatever I end up with (after it's whitened and I get my front tooth crowned of course. :) )
Braces off 9/19/08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really do and always have thought my teeth were ugly. :? Problem is I'm missing 4 teeth which means my smile will never really look normal even after braces! :x I mean I'm missing the two top teeth right next to the front teeth! So I'll have my impacted canines right there in front! Kinda embarrassing!

I'm kind of worried that no matter how well I brush my teeth will turn out really yellow after braces! They already are kind of yellow! Not the best hygiene as a kid  but I'm working on it!

Good luck and hopefully we both will actually have lovely smiles in the end!

Lucy--I hope you feel better soon. Now that you know so much about orthodontics, I'm sure you see your teeth with an even more critical eye. I don't know what your teeth look like, but I can't imagine healthy, straight teeth looking bad. It is an emotional up and down all the time, though, huh? I bet your smile will be awesome when you're done!

I think the same as many here, Lucyloop, I think you will have a wonderful smile after your treatment is done.
I think we all feel the same at some point..."My teeth aren't that good and they will not end up being perfect" I thought that too!
But now I think that even the most crooked and awful teeth can be transformed into a beautiful smile. Your teeth are unique because you are unique...

I'm just starting here, but I've been reading your posts and they helped me a lot! They made me feel more confident about this braces journey.
I wish you the best!!!

What about getting implants?

I've actually thought about that. My mouth is small, so I'll probably never have that huge toothy grin that famous people seem to always have. All the same, I know I'll look a million times better, and I'll actually have pictures taken of myself, which is a pretty major thing.

I think that if teeth are relatively white, and relatively even, they usually look good.

If teeth are very white (ie bleaching) and good-even to perfect-even, they generally look superb.

Everyone in this forum should be able to achieve the latter.

Weird--not all teeth can be bleached to a white-white. I've been told that my teeth are somewhat 'transparent' and that they will only look so white because my tongue makes sort of a shadow behind them. The only way I can get them white-white would be bonding. After all this I'll be stuck with so so white I guess.

Hannah, there is a woman at my work (about 35) who's canines were in such a bad position that when she had braces they pulled her canines next to her two front teeth. Then they 'reshaped' them. I would never have know if she hadn't told me. I think yours will be great.

I'm sorry you are feeling so down, Lucy :( I'm sure your teeth will be amazingly beautiful when the metal comes off!! I always hated my teeth and was sure they would look hideous when I got my braces off, but they seem to get fuller, whiter, and even straighter every day! Plus, if you had perfect teeth, people would know that you have had braces (which is not a bad thing, of course!). I myself would prefer my teeth to look very very straight, yet natural, not like one straight line of 'white'. Good luck and feel better :D

Hannah, I have a friend that is having some sort of surgery to take out two bottom teeth and having them put into the top arch, so she will have a full smile. Perhaps you have some sort of option like this one? Either way, your smile is YOURS and you should be proud of it!

Keep smiling, everybody!

I think you're a champ! I've been reading your posts for a while and I think you're doing so great. I just got mine on yesterday. I'm kinda the opposite...I thought my teeth were FINE before all of this (fairly straight). It's my overbite they're trying to correct.

Just think how gorgeous you'll be when it's all over! At least, that's what I keep telling myself! LOL!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm pretty sure that's what my ortho is going to do! Hopefully it will look okay! :)

Missing_tooth: I don't think I'm going to have implants. I think my ortho will just reshape my canines to look like laterals. Hopefully it will work!

Johnnys_angel: That is a very intersting idea! Thanks for suggesting it! Sounds very odd! My ortho decided to extract 2 teeth on the bottom so my smile will be symmetrical instead! Hopefully it will work out somehow! Thanks for the encouragement! :D

Your not on your own Lucy - I know how you feel, and there were some days during my ortho that I felt down and a little low with all my teeth wired up. Personally I never liked the way my teeth were (that goes without saying), until I took positive steps and had braces. I know I'll never had that perfect wide arch that gives you a full, hollywood type smile, but I feel a better and more confident person in myself, now I know they are straighter than what they were.

Keep your spirits up, I'm sure you'll look great when your a participating member of the 'naked' club ;)
