Ive had uppers for 7 months and on friday am getting lowers. In the summer im having an op to correct a severe overbite. Im 25 so its not a bad age to get it all done.
Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has worn a bite plate before (I have to wear it 24/7 apparently because my overbite would bite into the lower archwire) and how long did they wear it for and how much hassle is it?
P.S. This really is a fantastic website, and it has not got a single idiot poster on here. How cool is it?
Does that mean only good people have braces
Ciao.

I've had to wear a bite plate ever since I got my braces on (for about 7 months) and for the last 3 months I've just worn it at night. But I still have to wear it.
I've had mine put in a few weeks ago and I hate it! I have an overbite or overjet and I need to have it so I don't bite down on my lower brackets. The biggest problem I have is how it affects my speech. Try talking with an ice cube in your mouth....that's about how it is. I've gotten somewhat used to it, but I can't wait til it's gone!!
I had an anterior bite plate for about a year in 9th grade. It is very uncomfortable, and mine showed below my top teeth, but it was clear so it wasn't that bad. I got used to it after about a month. The worst part was when it got stuck on the molar band and I couldn't get it off to brush my teeth! I was so scared but it worked out.
My overbite is now completely taken care of though, and I'm just waiting on my pesky lowers to go where the need to be so I can get debanded.
It's really not all that bad, but will be a BIG thing to get used to.
