How long 'till your braces sentence is over?

Hi everyone, I'm not new, I used to be BraceFace13, but I'm turning 15 soon. 8) Anywho, I've had braces for nearly a year now and I still have about 4 or 5 years to go. :| For the time being, I have to wear a removable appliance to replace my (genetically) missing teeth. I hate my teeth. I never smile with my teeth showing because I'm so insecure about them.

Okay, vent over. Thanks for listening!

Thank you very much for the encouraging words, KK! :D

I'm only braced partially on the top; I guess I have to wear them until I qualify for the dental implants to keep my front teeth from spreading apart.

BraceFace15, I feel your pain -- I hate my teeth too :-( I had a bicuspid that never came in under a crowned baby tooth, and it's caused SO many problems. My teeth shifted, my jawbone eroded where the tooth should've been, and the teeth around it got all kinds of cavities.

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but it's really SUCH a positive thing that you're getting all this fixed now while you're young. I'm 31, and so much time has been wasted. Even if you have to be in braces for 4-5 more years, you'll still be barely 20 -- and, believe me, that's the time that you're going to want to have that beautiful smile you worked so hard and suffered for!! :-)

I may only have two years in braces ahead of me, but I've got to get implants and all that other fun stuff to correct 30 years of damage. Keep plugging away! You'll have your whole adulthood ahead of you to savor the payoff :-)

Hi Emily,

Hang in there. It might be tough at times but keep remembering why you are doing this. You will end up with a beautiful smile at a young age so just keep that in mind during hard times. :)

BraceFace15...as a kid I always hated my teeth and I was so embarrassed of them. If you look at any pic from when I was a kid you can see just how uncomfortable I was. I never smiled showing my teeth and I was so uncomfortable even eating around people. At 25 I decided to get braces and I never looked back! My parents could never afford braces for me...I wanted the all of my life and once I got them I loved them. Every little or big pain that I had I new was making things better. I was so excited when I would go to the ortho and have pain afterwards! Now, I am 9 days from getting my braces off and I am really excited! I have had them for 3+ years, I have had surgery (SARPE) and expanders...It was all worth it! Hang in there and smile! I am so excited for the changes you are going to see in the next few years! It will go by faster than you think!!!!!!

Let me join in the chorus! I'm newly braced at 45. I sure wish I had gotten it over with in my teens. You're lucky!

17-23 months left on my sentence.

Yay!

I have three days until I get my braces off, but I have found that my bottom front teeth do not touch my front top teeth and I don't know if that's normal. Could it also be because of my bite in general? Please help.

Sorry to hijack, Vernie my teeth almost don't touch. My Ortho says it's an over-correction done on porpose so that when there off and my teeth settle they will be in just the right place. But every case is different so ask your Ortho before they come off.....

Best wishes,
Leah
