Yay karen! That's awesome! Isn't it the best feeling when you go for a cleaning and the hygenist tells you you're doing everything right? :)

Goodness, with all that swelling, your head must be HUGH by now!

You also might want to think about a flouride rinse. I use Colgate Phos-Flur rinse every night after brushing. It's also supposed to help prevent white spots from developing on your teeth with braces.

Congrats on the good remarks from your hygienist!

I've only had my braces (bottoms) on for a week. I'm due for a cleaning in April, and I was wondering..is it necessary to have the wires removed prior to the cleaning? This might save a call to my ortho if you can help. Thanks.

Fabulous news Karen! Nice reward for all your hard work. Only thing that would have made it better would be if the flouride treatment was purple !

I have my first (since braces) cleaning appointment at the end of this month. Its going to take all day by the time I go in to have my wires removed, drive 20 miles to the dentist, then back to the orthodontist to have wires put back on.

All the girls at the dentist office just can't wait to see my braces. And my newborn not fully exposed canine. There just aren't that many people that get excited about this stuff.

I had a cleaning in January and I did not have my wires removed. They were able to clean them with the waterjet just fine (altough I ended up totally wet from the spray hitting my brackets! LOL)

Congrats

KK: Great Job! The great thing too is I know for you and probably me these great habits will carry through with us even after we get our braces off.

I have an interesting question. Are the hygienists in a different office than your dentist? My dentist is my hygienist and I hate it! I don't think he does a great job of cleaning my teeth and I would rather have a woman do it. Sorry all you men out there. It is just a personal preference thing. I am thinking about leaving my dentists after all these years because he is not supporting me well with my endeavor to have braces. He is just sooooo conservative. He is the family dentist and he told my Mom that the braces will not fix my grinding problem. I'm like "well yeah, if you "say" it won't it won't. Sometimes there is some amount of mind over matter type things that go on with healing. It is not all just mechanical. Anyway I am rambling. I was just wondering if that was the norm in Australia and elsewhere. Maybe I should post a separate discussion?

Hi jcdamon3, I'm in Oz too and my dentist is also my hygienist. I'm not due for a check/clean until August, so am not sure what the drill will be (no pun intended).
