Im wondering if people still go out to clubs etc at night with braces?

Im 18 and will be getting braced in May, I keep thinking to myself, well 2 years of being singe, not going out and when they come off, ill be 20/21 and my young life is over, no more goin out, no fun, ill be old...

Im feelin really low as I think Ill miss all the young teen fun because I wont go out with these things.

Man this is just annoying.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Sorry if I sound arrogant or something

You will have plenty of time for fun at age 20/21. Also, I'll bet that you find your braces will not stop you from going out now, you will be surprised.

Hi Barry,

I am 22 and got my braces almost 2 months ago. I did stop going to clubs and things like that, as well as stopped going for dinner with my friends. I don't think I will be like that for 2 years...I guess with time I will get used to it and be comfortable enough to go out and not be so self-conscious about my mouth...

BUT

Getting braces is a really good thing to do if you don't like your teeth. You might be uncomfortable for a bit...but we have a lot of years in front of us still...

Good luck

Im 17 at the moment 18 in a few weeks and i feel that braces do make me look younger which can be a bit of a pain. Especially when going out because i dont have any proper ID because im not 18.

My friend had braces and she was 16 / 17 at the time and she still went out clubbing and met pleanty of guys. So theres nothing stopping you, if someone likes you then there not gonna let braces get in the way. I didnt when i met my boyfriend.

Hey Barry,
I thought the same thing as you before I got mine. I got mine when I was 22 and I'm nearly 24. I still go out to clubs quite a bit, and haven't had any problem with "the ladies", so to speak... in fact, of the probly 20+ I've talked to at clubs since I got braces, only 1 has commented about them and she just said "wow, you have braces". No big deal.

There are some of us who are 40 and over and we don't think our life is over. In fact I think life is just beginning. I am not sitting in a rocking chair on the porch knitting scarfs.

If you think that going to clubs is the only way you can have fun then apparently you don't know how to have fun. Don't get me wrong - I had my share of clubbing when I was younger. It took me a while to realize that it wasn't all that "fun". There is a lot more to life.

I am 46 and still ski, white water raft, etc. I'm going to cabo this year and hope to try parasailing, scuba diving whatever I get the opportunity to do. Braces are not going to stop me from doing anything that I want to do.

about the only differnece is that i get carded again. kinda funny, but not too big of a deal.
you may feel a bit self concious for a while, but i am sure like most of us you will get over it quickly.
i still have not figured out why we all (self included) think braces are such a big deal. any thoughts? intellectually i know they are NOT, and most people could not care less.
good luck and you will be jsut fine. go out and have fun

Wow life over at 21? Hmmm... Braces stopping you from doing things? Hmmm... Tell that to someone in a wheelchair or an amputee, good God man! There just braces!!!!! Missing all the "young teen fun", I think most people with braces are teens! Plenty of people in this world would gladly trade places with you if all you have to deal with are braces on a daily basis. Not to mention all the people who can't afford to fix there teeth, but wish they could. Boo hoo my life is over...get over it! If I may quote a movie, "The world meets nobody half way." Get out there and live life! Hoo-rah! Go team go! That's all I got... :D

Why in the world would you consider stopping any activities you enjoy just because you wear braces? Honestly, people don't care about your braces nearly as much as you think they do. Whatever it is you want to do, just do it and quit worrying. :D

Forget about the braces..I can't get past you thinking 20/21 is old! Let me just say this. PLEASE enjoy your youth as much as you can because time flies by SO FAST. I'm only 33, but I wonder where the time went. You're still a baby, believe me!

Have fun and stop worrying!

Alright, thats just silly. I understand avoiding dinner and such as I have this TPA that makes eating a b*tch and surely not a pleasant site. However, I'm 29 and a HUGE live music fan. I've settled down quite a bit, but I still often get out 2,3, sometimes 4 nights a week to the bar, club, or wherever the music is - I have to fied all kinds of hell with this silly lisp from the TPA (if I have a few beers it seems to get worse real fast) Other than having it keep you from slipping into the bar underage, and maybe an awkward dinner situation, it isn't going to mean squat to your social life. Just act like they aren't even there, thats how most of us probably handled our crooked teeth. I've been both surprised at who doesn't and who does notice my braces, and sometimes someone will say 'Did you get braces?' - reply, yeah, couple of weeks ago - move right along like its no big deal if you don't want to talk about it. Most of the time, they'll just feel stupid for even mentioning it.

I wish I had done it at age 18 so I could have nice teeth at age 21... Oh come on. Ugly teeth are repelling because you look like you don't care about yourself, have no money or whatever. Braces make you younger, maybe geeky. Fine. But they are certainly not repelling or ugly. If anyone doesn't like you just because of that... f*ck them. Despite that... there are poeple that think it is cute und sexy. Anyway... wait a bit until you get more used to them. Maybe after 2 months or so you will put UV light sensitive ligs and disco with a big glowing smile!

They are called glow in the dark ligs. Where is this website with the flash lig selector? They had green, yellow and pink glow ligs.
