My Teeth hurt!

#1 Post by joleigh »

Or maybe it is my head.

Ouch. I just had my 3rd adjustment. They are trying to bring my left canine down that was protruding out and OY does it hurt. Wow.

the technician took off my wire and replaced it with a new one and as soon as she tightened it like she was tieing a shoe lace my tooth felt like it was going to pop off  OMG I have never felt such pain in my life

And then as I expressed the sheer torture that I was experiencing she said very politely "hon, I am afraid it is only going to get worse before it gets if better" YIKES!

I am scared TO DEATH to go to my next adjustment. Anyone else experience this type of pain

OH YES! Welcome to the club. Last week I had a tooth hurt SO much that I thought I would need a root canal (still worry abit), I couldn't even brush that tooth...but the pain subsided after a few days. Weird thing is, that tooth is not one that needs moving, but "two doors down" that one is being manipulated with a "step down" in the arch wire. I wonder if its referred pain. Maybe the adjacent teeth are showing sympathy pain for their compadre. :jokerlaugh:

I went through the same thing. One of my front teeth was killing me. I was thinking root canal, so I called my dentist to make an appointment. The next day it got better, so I cancelled it.

OMG! I totally feel your pain!

I just got one of my previously impacted canines attached to the wire on Tuesday and OH did it hurt! It still does! And I got a new bigger wire for the bottom! We had pizza for dinnner tonight and I totally couldn't bite into it! :?

I think my ortho also wanted me to start wearing elastics to bring the teeth down but decided not to do it this time! Almost grateful because it hurts so bad alreaday!

Hopefully our pain goes away soon! Good thing is that I am so definitely seeing progress, the most I've ever seen! :D

ugh, this kinda sucks :(

I thought I had prepared myself for this. You know, I have been browsing this site for a while before I got braced, and I thought "this won't be so bad" but YOWSER, HOLYCOW BATMAN@#!

But, the good news is my tech and ortho are great, they totally empathize with me and treat me like everything is normal so i AM really trying to hang in there. I cannot go back right?????

no pain no gain. :ouch:

Scotch and water, here I come.

Can't go back. I much rather prefer a strong margarita!

Oh boy, do I feel your pain. My second adjustment was two weeks ago, and I am just now getting back to normal. I had both new and bigger wires put in, a powerchain on my two front teeth, and a spring where my missing lateral is. I can tell you - I thought I was going to pass out when the ortho was cramming the archwire in. I have been almost entirely pain free throughout this process, but I have to say that this one was an eyebrow raiser. I swear I will get some photos up, hopefully tomorrow.

This is my photo before the adjustment. The gap between my two front teeth was closed that night. And I got the spring where the arrow is pointed. When I get my new picture posted, you will see, that I have a gap almost to match where my "peg" lateral is. (God, I hate that term - does anyone else??!) Anyway, you are not alone.

Thanks for the replies guys, it is kind of comforting to know that I am not the only in agony here.

Well it has been a couple of days since my adjustment and things have settled down a bit, but my left canine is really bothering me and it feels kind of numb.

In all of the excitement of my whining I forgot to mention this. At my adjustment they also attached a bracket to the BACK side of that canine (so now I have a bracket on the front and back of that canine) and attached brackets to my top last molars. Then they attached a power chain to the bracket on the BACK side of that canine and it is running through the roof of my mouth and attached to the left back molar. The tech said she did this because they are trying to bring it inward a little. Things feel really strange in my mouth right now

So now I have a very constant dull headache and I blame it all on that horrible little powerchain.

I only have a camera phone and need to get the attachment to download them to my computer and I will try to post a pic later.

Wow, a bracket on the inside too? Ouch, that would be uncomfortable.

As for the canine, my worst canine has been aching on and off since first getting banded, it never settled down and now they have to put elastics on it this week.

One NIGHT? Wow! That gives me hope as I wonder when he'll put the powerchains on to close my gaps as time is ticking closer to my 2 year mark. I figured it would take a few months to close the gaps (although I had no extractions).
