What are powerchains?

this might be a really dumbass question since i'm wearing braces but maybe they use different terminology in the UK for powerchains what are they and if you guys have any pictures that would be great!

Here is a picture I have in my thread on the "our braces stories" board. You see the silver elastic thing I have across my front four teeth? That is a powerchain. It helps close spaces by pulling your teeth.
