ouch!!!!!! ----911----

Ok, I need to ask those of you who've recently had your wisdom teeth pulled:

(I feel like I need to clarify that I'm a mentally healthy person before I ask this though  , cause this doesn't make much sense to me, right now.)

Q: Can the pain of an impacted wisdom tooth, (tooth#32-bottom, right side) which was extracted 5 days ago, keep increasing, even though I have not had much problems or hardly any pain in the beginning? I mean, the pain is nearly unbearable, leading to tears (yes, I admit, I'm a BIG BABY, when it comes to pain)?

FYI: The swelling is nearly un-noticeable, although there's still slight bruising, but the pain keeps getting worse, with each day. And I just don't "get it", cause I've been doing so good, and taking care of myself, and all.....

Can any of you please shed some light on this? Could there be something wrong, or is this just normal part of healing? I hope I don't have an infection or something.

Please answer ASAP!!! I'm going crazy. I have vicodin, but I get nausea with it, so I'm afraid to take it. The Ibuprofen 600mg, did not work one bit!

I called the OS

#2 Post by lillie32 »

I called my Dr just about an hr ago. I left a message. Hopefully, he'll call me back soon!

Also, I think you're right about the dry socket. The sight doesn't look like I think it should.

update

Yeah! I can totally understand how she could end up in the Hptl. I was almost at that point myself, last night. But somehow the meds kicked in, and knocked me out. (TG!)

UPDATE:

Ok, I called the doc on call last night, and he called me right back, and told me to come in first thing this morning. After looking at it, he concluded that it's dry socket, and an infection had gotten started. He cleaned it up, changed the dressings, and prescribed antibiotics. Hopefully, this will heal well this time. :soremouth:

dry socket

#5 Post by science teacher »

I know dry socket SUCKS! I nursed my husband through them with his wisdom teeth.

If possible avoid all sucking motions. Through a straw, on a cigarette, etc.
My Dr. told me that and I didn't have dry socket, my husband smoked and got dry socket.

my 2 cents....

I wonder.....

Well, I would have to say that I did everything they told me to do, and not to do. I knew not to use a straw, and I don't smoke, so it wasn't cause of that. Although, I wonder if it might have been the one morning, about 2 days after the surgery, when I couldn't help that I had to sneeze, and not just a regular sneeze, but like 3 in a row hard sneezes. Maybe that force coming into my mouth, disturbed the site? It blead somewhat, but I didn't worry much, cause I had no pain then. That day was the first day I could open my mouth enough to take a look in there (without actually touching it) with a flash light. It didn't look good even then. I felt as if there was something wrong, but I didn't want to be a bother to anyone, and since I had nothing to compare it too, because the wisdoms (which I had taken out in my teens) on the top were in a diff. location, and much easier to extract due to them not being completely formed yet.

The doctor told me, that even he, himself had the same problem. So he was very simpathetic, and said that sometimes, you can do everything right, and still get dry socket and/or infection, like me. So that made me feel a lot better.

P.S. When I get completely better, and can finally eat real food, I want to go to my favorite restaurant and eat some yummy, yummy food!

I think sometimes even when you're careful dry sockets happen...I had four dry sockets after my wisdom teeth removal, and I didn't do anything on the "no-no" list. ;)

Feel better!
