How many nights in hospital?

#1 Post by 4beauty4symmetry »

Hey guys, I just did a search and skimmed a few blogs but couldn't find an answer to this particular question:

For those of us who have had upper, lower, and genio, HOW MANY nights did you spend in the hospital?

And how many people, if any, did not do an overnight in the hospital.

Right now I'm budgeting for one, and that's what my oms, who is conservative, has recommended, but I'm wondering if I should start planning for two.

I'm 47, btw, and in good health, w/ no known medical conditions.

But you didn't have lower.

I'm just wondering how it is for those of us getting all sides of the Big Enchilada.

I had all sides of the Big Enchilada, and I was one night in the hospital. I left at about 8pm on the second day, and almost stayed a second night but than decided I wanted the comfort of my own bed.

They won't let you leave until you can consume liquids on your own, and be OK without your I.V. so once I finished to apple juices and 2 jellos my surgeon filled out my discharge papers.

My dad and brother did stay up all night with my on my first night home, so make sure someone is available.
I think you should be fine with one night in the hospital.

My surgeon's policy is:

1 jaw= 1 night in the hospital

2 jaws = 2 nights in the hospital

Genio does not add any hospital time either way!

Yes, My doctor said the same. They scheduled me for one, but he said to plan on two. 1 night for each jaw.

How old were you when you had the surgery, Anabel?

It sounds like 1-2 nights is the norm.

Thanks, guys, for all the responses.

I was about to turn 34 when I had the surgery. My OS usually does the double jaws in the hospital unless it's someone in the medical field or like a kid with a dr. in the family or something. I'm a nurse and had a close friend who had just had upper surgery, also nurse friends who were able to stay with me for the first afternoon and night. So, lots of good support. Which you're going to need no matter how many nights you stay in the hospital. Anyway, good luck.
