hey I haven't been on in a while so thought I'd update, I had my pre-op last wednesday & it went fine, they asked me a whole load of random questions, took blood and blood pressure & that was it.
My sore throat has cleared! thanks for the advice to all those who gave, I've been taking vit c combined with zinc & it's working great!
Well I'm going in on sunday at 2:30 pm which seems kind of early, I mean what am I going to do for the rest of the night? my surgery is on monday morning...I don't feel an inch nervous yet, maybe it'll suddenly hit me on saturday night or something
I'm kind of mad at my brother though because he's going to barcelona the day after my operation, I'm mad because I think he should be there & also I'm a little jealous because I'm not going anywhere this summer lol oh well he better bring me something back!
I'm not completely sure about when I return home post-op, which they said would roughly be on thursday, about eating & everything I know alot of you use zip & squeeze but since I'm in the UK it's harder to get, what's the alternative just using a spoon? is it really going to be difficult? That's the only thing I'm really worried about..that & something going wrong lol

Uh...yeah, using a spoon is going to be difficult. I wasn't even banded or wired, however, I would not have been able to survive without zip and squeeze. I used a baby spoon and even that was tough. What you don't realize is that your jaw is going to be held open for god knows how long during this surgery. When you get done, you are going to be very stiff and very sore in your jaw joints, and your range of motion is going to be significantly impaired. Plus you may have one or both lips that are numb for a period of time after surgery. Numb lips, and sore jaw joints, don't for easy eating make. Some people use syringes filled with liquid to eat, however, I have also heard this sucks as you have to fill them so many times just to get a decent amount of food, whereas one zip and squeeze will fill you right up.
I have read that some people use a feeding syringe or a turkey baster also, but again not much fun. I realize you are at a disadvantage here, but they zip and sqeeze made a huge difference for me.
Hope this helps.

Try not to waste you energy on being upset! I know your aren't really mad or anything like that and I don't mean to imply that you are. I would just hate to see you go into this with any kind of negative emotions. You wil need your positive attitude out in full force. And if you are at all like me, this kind of thing really niggles in the back of your mind.I'm kind of mad at my brother though because he's going to barcelona the day after my operation, I'm mad because I think he should be there & also I'm a little jealous because I'm not going anywhere this summer lol oh well he better bring me something back! Very Happy
2:30 on Sunday does seem pretty early, but maybe they want to do some tests without having to wake you up at 4:30 in the morning. Or maybe it is a staff thing - all the 'elective' surgery check in people leave early on Sunday. Maybe you can take a portable DVD player or something to keep your mind occupied. Best wishes for MOnday morning!
There will be some meals that you can drink right from a cup - smoothies and so on; and the syringe (which the hospital may provide for you) is not ideal but it is do-able. So don't worry about not having zip n squeeze bags. They are really nice to have, but you will get by without them.
Best wishes!
