Calling all 40something Jaw Surgery Vets

As some of you may remember, seeing as how I seem to have mentioned it a zillion times (<g>), I'll be having upper, lower, and genio in Costa Rica.

How long after your surgery--for those that have the trifecta, or triple layer enchilada--do you think it was before you would be up for an airplane flight?

My journey from Costa Rica to Boson would be broken into two--Miami or Huston stop over/changeover most likely--and would take 8-10 hours total transit time.

My OMS will say two weeks, but he's always conservative--originally after the Sarpe he wanted me to stay two weeks, but then four days after the surgery he examined me and said I could go back anytime. So that's why I thot I'd ask the "been there, done that" crowd.

I am a mere 20-something, but I don't know if I would have been able to manage a flight like that until about 7-10 days after surgery. (Mind you, I was very doped up on morphine and wired shut. Things may be different for you!)

A genio and a chin implant? My understanding is a genio when done correctly is the preferred solution to a "weak chin" and done instead of a chin implant. Most individuals may opt for a chin implant if no other orthognathic surgery is necessary as it is an easy quick procedure that can be done as an outpatient with a small incision.

My mistake. I should change my signature. For months I thot it was a chin implant I was getting, then my OMS informed me I would actually be undergoing a genioplasty.

Like most underbiters, I have a prominent chin (or did until the Sarpe). The OMS sez that the mandibular setback will leave me with the appearance of a weak and recessed chin, an assessment disputed by none of the other orthos or oms I consulted with.

A bit flipped out now that I have the date. It would be much less stressful if I could have the surgery here--don't want the surgery to be a Big Adventure--but don't have much choice. . .
