My SARPE was easy and I'm not having big issues with the braces.
But now I'm going to have to have my tonsils out over Christmas.
Hmmm....
As I"m reading about adult tonsillectomies it doesn't sound good. But the strangest thing I've noticed is not once has warm salt water been mentiond to promote the healing of the wounds.

Hey Kim,
I had my tonsils out when I was 16, and it was certainly no fun. I didn't eat anything for a week. Although your surgeon might be better than mine. My surgeon somehow changed the way my soft pallette acts when he did the procedure. I haven't been the same since.
I would be prepared with some italian ice type things. Pudding was also good for me. I had to learn how to let things slide backwards on my tongue and swallow them once they hit my throat instead of trying to swallow normally as that was more painful than anything. The salt water should be good as well.
Glad to hear that your SARPE and your braces are both doing well. Just think of this surgery as another stepping stone to getting healthy. It may be a week or so of pain/discomfort, but then it gets better. After that, no more sickness to worry about. I had strep for 6 months straight before my surgery. I was so glad to be done with strep and the pain wasn't that much more than that of an infection to give you an idea.
I hope this helps and doesn't scare you. I don't like to sugarcoat things.

That's too bad about your tonsils, but it will be over in no time, and it's a coincidence you mention it because I have been reading a lot this past week about tonsils. Mine have been really swollen since a BSSO a month ago and gargling with warm/hot salt water 4-5 times a day has helped me quite a bit. But if you can make it through SARPE, this isn't so bad, you'll do well. I had HUGE problems with mine when I was younger because of the outside shape, which was dimpled like a golf ball, therefore, collecting bacteria constantly. I feel for you, because it's no fun to be in pain each time you swallow, best of luck to you.

tonsils
Thanks guys.
I have those same dimpled tonsils. I've been on 5 rounds of antibiotics since the end of August trying to stay healthy.
I'm betting it won't be as bad as I've read. I'm pretty tough. I've also had 4 abdominal surgeries in addition to the SARPE. It's more about psyching myself up to go do it. Since I teach I have to plan when is the best time to be gone and what the heck will the sub do with my students.
