Can any of the men who have had surgery answer this, I was wondering how soon after surgery you can shave without it hurting too much?
I don't ask for any particular reason, just curious.
Blokes - Shaving post-op
Moderator: bbsadmin
I'm unfortunate enough to be one of those blokes who can grow a beard in 48 hours! Therefore I was pretty eager to get a shave after spending 3 days in hospital without one.
Shaving wasn't all that bad to be honest, but I had to use an electric shaver the first couple of times. After I'd had my operation they inserted two drain tubes under my chin and obviously I couldn't have a wet shave until these healed up.
Now that they've healed I'm able to have either a wet or dry shave in relative comfort, but there is still one thing I can't do. Usually when I shave I stretch the skin with one hand to make sure I catch as much hair as possible and get a nice close shave. I still can't do this at the moment as it causes a bit of pain and discomfort even if I'm not over the affected areas. It's not a problem but it just means I have to shave a bit more regularly.

I'm almost 3 months post-op after lower and upper surgery. I had to use an electric razor at first. Now I use an electric on only the right side since it's still numb, but on the left chin I use a normal razor. The tingling from the electric razor can be unbearable at times, I just squint and bear it for the most part.
