I have also been told I should pursue gum surgery after my braces are removed. It's also called "crown lengthening," "gum contouring" and "gum laser surgery," if a laser is used.
I've been told my dentist in Costa Rica that it will cost 250 a quadrant, and that I will need to wait 4-6 weeks after the gums are cut away before I have veneers made. I'm not sure I need or want veneers. I don't know if I would have to wait until the gum tissue heals before I do any kind of whitening/teeth restoration stuff.
It's supposed to be a simple and quick proceedure done under local anaesthestic, requiring one to eat soft food for some time afterwards. Frankly, after two jaw surgeries, this aspect of the whole thing is so not a big deal I haven't asked many questions about it.
