Extraction site

#1 Post by Katt »

Does anyone know how long it should take for an extraction site hole to close up? I had my tooth pulled about 2 weeks ago and there is still a pretty big hole there. It doesn't hurt, just annoying that food gets stuck in there all the time. TIA :D

I had 4 extractions a couple of weeks ago and they're still healing/closing. It's very annoying when food gets in there. Luckily I have a syringe from when my wisdom teeth were extracted and have been using it to very gently flush out any food particles.

Salt water rinses help heal the site too. Good luck! :)
Wisdom teeth extracted: 11/09/07
Upper & lower arches braced, but only the 6 upper front teeth wired: 1/22/08
All 4 Bicuspids extracted: 1/26/08

I had my upper wisdom teeth extracted normally a year ago. They had closed in roots and were extracted easily with a novocaine shot for each side.

When I poke my tongue up where they were, I still feel a hole. The bony gum protrusions around it are clearly defined and there is definitely a hole where their roots were. It's more shallow now, than say ten months ago, but a hole nevertheless. Yes, food bits still get stuck in them :x

Hi there,
I've been looking for a post to ask this question and maybe someone here knows.

I just had four extractions done this past Saturday and MAN am I in pain today! (Monday) I was fine Sat (the anesthesia was pretty good). I've only been taking Advil, but am thinking maybe the Tylenol with Codeine will need to come out.

Tell me about the salt water rinses; what part water and what part salt? Is there anything over the counter that I could use? I want the extraction sites to heal and heal quickly, because my first adjustment is this Wednesday!

What about eating? I attempted to eat a chicken enchilada last night, and for the most part, it went ok. Just had to cut the chicken even smaller and for the most part, just swallow it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! (or refer me to a posting I may have missed......so much to read here!)

Thanks all!
Christine

Hi there,
I really appreciate this extent of advice…..you are all amazing! Called the OS today and they said that I should be applying warm, moist heat and try taking a combination of Tylenol and Advil for the pain. (someone else mentioned this before) They said that due to the fact that my bottom extractions took a little more work to get out, (they were very slanted) that it would be normal for me to be experiencing pain still. I did read up on dry socket anyhow; geesh, I hope that doesn't happen!

I bought some Colgate Peroxyl and that seems to help a bit. I just want to be able to sleep a full 8 hours (oh heck, six would be sweet!)

Did I mention how much I don't want to talk lately??? My kids think it's great. LOL

Thanks again!
Christine

I had a "surgical" extraction of a molar a couple of years ago, and as they had to dig around a lot to get it out, it did take a couple of weeks to stop feeling sore. :?

Well done tho on managing to eat so quickly, and fingers crossed it doesnt turn into a dry socket :D

ps-if the worst should happen and a dry socket does form, its not that bad (tho it is painful), just make sure you get to the dentist asap for antibiotics etc and after a couple of days itll be fine.
