No April Fools.....Splint is OFF!!!

#1 Post by spartanfan72 »

Today was my 6-week post-op checkup. Six weeks exactly to the day.

First up was the OS at 9am. Splint came off without too much trouble, man did that thing STINK. The first time I bit down and my bottom teeth went behind my top teeth was pretty weird. I wouldn't have imagined the roof of my mouth would feel sooooo good.

Ortho appt. was at 11:40am....Doc was thrilled with the surgery results. But that didn't stop him from doing all kind of adjustments. New wire on top, braided wire on bottom, elastics on both sides.

I was so busy and late to get back to work that I haven't even taken my new bite for a test drive yet with food....I'm STARVING!!

The elastics are no big deal. I'm so used to the ones the OS put on that damn near banded me shut, that these ones are easy. They are easy and quick enough that I can pop them off to eat or clean my teeth and put them right back on...no mirror needed.

The new top wire doesn't hurt as I still don't have all the feeling in my upper teeth yet. The bottom braided wire is another story. When I bite down, my front bottom teeth rub against the inside of my top teeth. My bottom teeth are pretty sore right now, so biting down isn't much fun.

I finally got to chew last night....pizza. It was so nice not to worry about food getting stuck in the splint or between the roof of my mouth and the splint.

Thanks for the well wishes..... :D
