Hi Raspberry, yes, I am glad that I have my parents with me to help me out. In fact, as JennX said, if they were not here, I know I would not be eating as well as I have been and I would be so tired and worried about running errands to the drug store and all (if I could even get myself to the drug store). We decided the other day that they will even stay a few days longer than we originally planned. Of course, I know that I'm lucky that my parents were able to come stay with me to help me out and that not everyone can do that. But with that being said, if you do have someone who can come and help you out for even a few days, I would highly recommend it.

I also know what you mean about being nervous about the surgery--I was totally nervous! But they put the anaesthesia in and that was it, the next thing I knew, I was waking up in the recovery room. It is true that it is hard to talk after the surgery, but I guess it is better not to speak too much anyway to give your mouth a chance to rest and heal. I am also pretty swollen, I was hoping my surgeon would let me use arnica montana and bromelain because I read on AW that they helped with swelling a lot, but he said no to herbs as long as I'm on narcotic pain relievers and all, so I guess I will stay swollen for now. :? Also, definitely make sure you have some vaseline, really good chapstick and maybe neosporin with pain reliever for your lips/mouth area because this area will get quite dry after surgery.

iborg: Thanks for your good thoughts and good luck to you with getting your July surgery date!

Ok... I just got home from my pre-surgery appointment...

I am having a BSSO, and possibly a Lefort I (depending if they need to after looking at my molds)... the forms also said FG... but I have no clue if that is another procedure ...

At the presurgery appointment, they took more xrays, molds, pictures. Then the took some blood, and I talked with the nurse about my medical history and my questions.

I got many pamphlets and info explaining exactly what would happen when I got to the hospital... which made me feel a lot better. and what to do afterwards.

They think I should be in the hospital for 2 -3 days... I'm hoping for 2.

My darling boyfriend (who lives across the country) has decided to drive here so he can take care of me post surgery... so I will not be alone:)

My surgery is on Tuesday, and I'm leaving tomorrow to go to the city it's in (about a 6 hour drive away). I'm getting really nervous... have considered changing my mind about the whole thing
I think that I have everything ready. My place is all clean, laundry is all done, i bought lots of post surgery food (well blendables lol), a baby tooth brush, and baby spoon. My Zip & Squeeze bags are on their way.

Any last minute advice?

Just remember what Delag has taught us.

TRIM your nose hair.

Seriously, I understand the cold feet. I'm no where near my yet to be determined date and I keep on hearing in my head, "Why at 50 are you considering this?"

I hope you have someone going with you that will support you along the way. Your friends here at AW will keep you in our thoughts.

got home around supper time tonight. The surgeon only decided to do my lower jaw, and to tell the truth i was disapointed... I hope that the results will turn out good.
I only had to stay in the hospital for one night... when they had told me around 2, so that was good.
i'm feeling alright, I'm just VERY swollen... not too sore.
i have all the feeling in my lips, and was drinking out of a glass right after surgery.

Talk to you guys soon!, and thanks for all the good luck!

Raspberry, Glad you are home and your sweet boyfriend is hopefully taking good care of you :D Be sure to have help when get up for a few days, as I understand passing out can happen - did to me.

I understand being disappointed that your OS changed the plan. Hopefully it was because they got such great results from the lower jaw that you didn't need to do the other procedure!

Be sure to rest - Resting = Healing.

Ok... I'm not going to lie about it... today has been HORRIBLE!
My face looks like a balloon, my stomach will not stop gurgling, and I'm just not a happy camper:S
I have to wait till 3 weeks from now to get the bands switched to the lighter removable bands.. which should have been 2 weeks, but my surgeon will be away... this is making me very stressed out :S:
Please someone tell me it's gonna get better... I feel like a monster:(

So sorry you are having a bad day! Day 2 and 3 were bad for me too. Its gets better soon!! I felt physically MUCH better at day 5. But started to get tearful because of the steroids. I wish I had known that could happen. It was scary. I was crying and crying, and didn't know why. My doctor's office said it was the steroids and isn't uncommon - but they failed to mention this to me.

But once I understood what it was about, it made it easier. That continued for several days. but I am at day 11 now and feeling really fine, just VERY tired.

I wish you comfort and reduced swelling very soon :D

Day 3 was the day I left the hospital, so you're doing pretty good in comparison!!!:) It gets better around day 5 or 6 I think...

Can you call your surgeon and see if he has a colleague he would allow to change out the bands?

Things are going a little better, but I've been getting increasingly frustrated. I've been going out to town, just to get out, and getting stared at is just making me sad. The swelling has gone down quite a bit, but I'm very bruised... I look green, and my neck is so bruised that it looks like someone has been strangling me...I don't know if this makes me want to laugh or cry...
Maybe I'll post some pictures later...
I have an appointment on Tuesday with my Orthodontist... so I'm going to see if he can help me to get the Surgeon to take the bands off a little earlier.
I'm not in much pain, except for hunger ;) I've only taken the pain meds once to sleep, and i'm not even taking the Tylenol anymore (mostly because it's really gross)
All in all the worst of it is the frustration of eating... or not eating really...I never really noticed before how many food commercials there are on TV... hehehe

Hehehe I had lots of fun being stared at afterwards; I was out with my mom usually, had bruises under both eyes, and my nose splinted over from the septoplasty fun - I'm pretty sure someone asked my mother if I had been abused by a boyfriend or something! I didn't care at the time; I wanted out, darn it, too bad for them if they think I look like a truck hit me - IT DID hit me ;)

Kids would stare openly but adults were relatively polite. Stare right back and dare them to say something!!! It's a psychology experiment!!!

I understand about eating... for whatever reason, there was an absurd number of commercials or TV programs on in the first few weeks that involved eating corndogs. I don't even LIKE corndogs but Oh MAN did I want one that first two weeks!!!
