Well, I totally misspoke about the ambien then, cmeyer, I don't experience that. I'm sorry to hear you're still experiencing the sluggish feeling in the morning, I thought Ambien was better for that :( . How is your discomfort? Are you still going in to work? Hitting the wall is normal, even my OS warned me off it in the hospital. Are you keeping in touch with friends and family to distract you?

i went through that same thing when i had my first surgery! Trust me when its all over will definitely love it! Give it atleast 6 weeks before your face is back to normal...and atleast 6months to a year or more for better and better improvements!

First, Big HUG.

I'm so sorry to hear you are feeling a bit blue and still hurting. No one is at their best when they're constantly hurting. It's so wearing physically and emtionally so it's hard to say positive.

I'm at 11 days out and the swelling on my jaw is practically gone, however the swelling in my chin is still very much there from where they took my implant out. My personal conjecture/experience is that trauma to areas of soft muscle and tissue seem to swell more. I don't expect my chin to go down for another couple weeks based on the current pace, but day by day it will.

Remember to stay ahead of the pain, though, Misiame. It is much better to 'manage' the pain than wait until you feel uncomfortable and trying to catch up.

There are very few case here on AW when someone didn't completely like their results more post op than before surgery, but I can think of a number of times when someone expressed the ,'what did I do?' feeling your temporarily experiencing right now. Hang in there, you will be so glad you did this and have the rest of your life to look back and be glad that you did it!

Meryaten~ Darn! Sorry to hear that about Ambien! Curious how that works, isn't it? It's been such a Godsend for me BUT....perhaps I won't need it much anymore....!

cmeyer115-sorry to hear your on no chew for so long, :? as you know i was on no chew for ages too, but its not all that bad as you can "eat" quite abit without actually having to chew it. (hope that makes sense)

misiame
-sorry to hear your having such a bad time. It might help you to read my blog (at end of post) as i experianced lots of the things your saying, i too was doing ok until the tight elastics came into the equation. I also had some probs adapting to the changes in my face (tho in my case infection played a part there) but you can see how it all became worth it in the end. And one weeks only a teeny amount of time to let the swelling go down etc.

Hi
Hope you are having a better time..each week it is worlds better- and the bands get more comfortable every few days (or we get used to being sore- I am not sure which)..I am one month out from BSSO and genioplasty and I feel great..I still have right ear pain/TMJ pain and clicking and swelling in my face- but it is soooo much better than the first few weeks..You are about to start seeing great improvements..I saw my oral surgeon at one week, two weeks and today at one month...Now he said he will see me in 8 weeks!!! Seems long- but there is nothing to do but heal and continue on as I am doing...I have two bands during the day and one in the front at night..I just got put on a chew diet..
I am taking over the counter naprosyn twice daily with some zantac just to keep the inflammation and pain in my TMJ at bay...Otherwise , there are just nagging discomforts- nothing too bad..and it has only been a month..You ARE going to do great- keep your chin out- it will be worth it..

Sorry! I just had my BSSO six weeks ago and I know how you feel. Trust me one week is not enough time to fully comprehend what just happen. I was still crying at 2-3 weeks. Its tough, dont be so hard on yourself and trust me when I say you cannot see your true face yet.

Thank you so much. I do feel a lot better. I still have that ear ache especially at night when I want to sleep. My doctor told me that everything that is happening with my recovery is normal. I have nothing to worry about...but i do worry...I see my OS every day now. He is changing my bands and he is so happy with the results. I have to stay one more week in Costa Rica. ...I don't mind it actually. They feed me well here. I am resting well and actually have the time just for myself. I have read a few books already, watched so many movies. It is a nice change from my normal busy life...
Thank you for your support. It is very calming to hear that there are others who went through the same experience.

Glad to hear you are resting up and feeling better...I think just hearing that others survived this journey and can laugh a little (maybe?) is so reassuring...I think each week will bring new recovery milestones. Just be prepared that after a few weeks of dramatic gains it tapers off and you need to keep your spirits up...My ear pain is really getting better now at 41/2 weeks

Hello everyone! I had my first appt with my ortho since the surgery. He is pleased with everything so far, and even took out my surgical hooks today! I couldn't believe how diff it felt. I have had them on since a month before surgery. I have another check up with the surgeons Monday and will be able to schedule next ortho visit to same as surgery check up. I am leaving the area midmonth and will have to return for visits! I am anxious to find out when the braces will come off!

SO GLAD your feeling better. I'm curious about the earache, is it inside your ear? Is it just part of the pressure from swelling?

Cmeyer~
Yea! Surgical hooks gone! Also glad to hear the good report from your ortho. I will be so envious if when you get your debracing date! I have another year  !

jackievandam~
Sounds like you are doing wonderfully and handling the "nagging discomforts" like a trooper. Does your OS anticiapte that the TMJ will improve?

My earache is almost gone. I don't have to even take any painkillers. My OS said that everything is fine. That kind of discomfort is normal with this kind of surgery and will probably last for 2 more weeks. I am not that swollen anymore. Only my chin. I am doing great. I can't believe how fast i am recovering. I even went out for a nice dinner and had a couple of glasses of wine along with some sea bass and mashed cooked vegies:D That felt awsome! I hope I will continue to feel like that.

Cmeyer- make sure to keep in touch online once you move..I am so glad that things moving quickly for you..It seems like we had our surgeries quite a while ago- not just 5 weeks!

Andantae- How are you doing? It seems like your recovery has been pretty uneventful- or do I just complain too much? Yes, my OS thought that my TMJ should go away on it's own...and it is so much better he may be right!

Misiame- glad your ear pain is getting better..I did have that a lot- and for some reason when I went to spinning class the past few weeks the loud music actually aggravated that deep earache!! Anyway, your dinner sounded great!

Jackie~ Heavens not--you don't complain at all! Your posts are always positive and informative!

I have been having huge computer issues so I will try to post my 3 week photos and update my thread this weekend.

I'm so glad the TMJ is getting better--- that must feel like SUCH a relief. I wondered about your earaches-whether they felt deep inside your ear or just in the canal. I haven't had any pain, but I have heard a clicking off and on and it seems like it comes from deep in my ear but it doesn't really feel like the joint. Something new every day, huh?
