Had my mandibular setback on wednesday

#1 Post by StephCanuck »

Finally, after some hassle and pushed back dates I got the surgury done. and, hopefully Im not speaking too soon, but im not feeling too badly. When my surgeon told me the surgury would be less painful then having my wisdom teth out I very much doubted him there, but at this point Id agree. its just a bit more uncomfortable, because of the whole jaw tied closed bit.

Hi Steph,
So are you wired shut? and for how long? My surgery was also on Wednesday, I have guiding elastics which don't seem so bad.

hey! yeah, Im wired shut, well sorta. banded shut I guess would be ore appropriate considering Its also just guding elastics. But yeah, they're not too bad. Although I heard that the 3rd day was the worst, iv gotten through th eblunt of it fairly well. I saw my OS this orning and he said I was doing extremly well, which is alwasy nice to hear. I dont know how long Ill be banded though, he said Ill get them off before I get to go see Oasis in september though, which is pretty sweet. He said whats the point of going to go see Oasis without screaming a little. lol.
Now Im not entirely sure what procedure he did on me, though im pretty sure it wasnt a Bsso or whatever. he explained that the insicion would basically be a blind cut about where I had my wisdom teeth out.

Hahaha I totally know what you mean. The first week after surgery I saw at least three TV references to corn dogs and OMG did I want one. Mind, I don't even like corndogs but wow I really wanted one.

Im curious to know what procedure my OS did, if anyone knows, awesome, if not ill asl my OS next week when I see him. umm ok as far as I know the cosent said something like a bilateral something something...and he made cut near where my wisdom teeth were ad kinda move my bottom jaw back (I was getting the mandibular setback and correction of a cross bite). Im curious cause my mother wants to know when Ill be on one of those fork mashed diets. Im kinda picky with food and am always feeling hungry, im sure thats normal, but I still wouldnt mind knowing about how long i have to wait considering I know that it not only depends on your own healing speed but also partly on what procedure you had done.[/list]

I think it was the IVRO considering Im tightly banded with no screws or plates or anything. I think he said this one takes longer to heal, but he thought it was the best for my case... But thanks alot for your quick reponse!!

yeah, he told us. plus there was no sign of any on the xray he should us. I think he would have said something if he had, but he is a bit scatter brained...excellent surgeon, but scatter brained. but no wires either, just bands, how odd.
