hey jill15,
your results are great!! like you, i have waited YEARS to have jaw surgery and it is coming up very soon! (9 days!) I am having both my upper and lower jaw done to correct my underbite.

My features are very similar to yours in your "before" picture. I have a very prominent lower jaw, a deficient upper jaw and some what of a long face ( I hope I do not offend you in any way). I am assuming that you had your upper and lower jaw done ifyou are wired, please correct me if I am wrong. I too will be wired for a day short of a month (my OS is going to put me in elastics a day before my semester starts).

Did you feel claustrophobic during the first few days of being swollen and wired shut? I'm told that I will lose about 10 to 15 pounds, but I'm going to be pumping lots of protein to try to avoid that as much as possible! (I'm 5'8, 123 lbs).

If you don't mind me asking, what changes did you see in your nose and upper lip? I have a large nose that is a little droopy, and i'm hoping this surgery will perk it up and flare it a bit. I was also told that my upper lip might shorten but my OS said he might do a plastic surgery procedure to avoid that.

I apologize for all of the questions, but with my surgery so soon I'm trying to get as prepared as possible :)

Best wishes,
Tori

haha, dont worry im not offened at all and a lot of people have said i couldnt do something like that because id feel claustrophobic but a lot of people dont relize you can still breathe through your mouth and personally i never felt claustrophobic and as for the weight part, try your hardest to find a lot of different liquids you like, i seriously cant stress that enough. Im a very picky eater but i try hard to get a lot into me ive already lost a bit over 20 pounds but im trying really hard to stay at this weight haha. But the best advice i can give you is listen to what your surgeon says and keep your spirits up! you just got to get through the discomfort for the first little while and everything will work out in the end!:) if you have any other questions dont be afraid to ask :D

Hello Jill, I also had jaw surgery about 2 weeks ago, top and bottom + cheek job.
My surgeon said he would decide whether or not to wire me up during surgery, and I woke up un-wired.
Did your surgeon give a reason for wiring your jaws shut?
Also, just out of interest, how many screws and plates did you get?
My count was 22 screws and 3 plates, I feel like Mr Roboto.

Hi Jill. Wow, what a coincidence. Im wired too, on Wednesday it will be 4 weeks since my surgery and a couple more weeks of being wired shut for me as well. I only had a lower jaw surgery to fix my underbite and cross bite. What did you have done?

Your results look great!

Are you bored of being wired up? I sure am
I had my surgery 2 weeks ago (top - forward and down, bottom - back)

I had self-ligating braces for 4 years & 8 months.

I'm now in Hawley retainers for top jaw (during day) and Essix retainers for bottom jaw (at night).

I had Jaw surgery on 14th July 2008

Paul,
my surgeon said that it was one of the hardest and most challenging surgerys he's ever had to do. He said that he just wanted to play it safe and make sure it heals correctly so he wired me up haha :) but i seen an xray a few days ago of my jaw and it looked like there was about 6 screws from what i could see, im not 100% sure though
