new to genio- what are bands?

Hi am new here. I wanted to get revision rhinoplasty (based in the UK) but both PS's suggested I go see a max fax surgeon to discuss this procedure as I have quite a recessive chin. I only ever thought implants were possible and only in last week or so have I been seriously looking into this procedure.

I show no teeth when my mouth is relaxed. My upper lip completely covers my teeth and in fact I practically have to distort my whole face to smile it feels like. My jaw is quite short and my chin far back. So amazingly have learned that this could be fixed!!!! I'd love to have a normal smile!

Can someone tell me what bands are? Will I be able to speak, open my mouth post surgery? If I do have both jaws operated on, is this much more painful than just one? And can I really have teeth on show when I have a normal, relaxed expression as a result of this surgery?

So tired of my angry, sad expression from this jaw issue. Everything things am just really moody!:)

bands? the only bands that I can think of are orthodontic rubber bands.

Sorry for being vague. I've read posts where people say they were tightly banded after getting lower jaw advancement. It seems to be something people get to keep the jaws in place after surgery.

I have pm'd you with details of my surgery but just to add not even jaw surgery stopped me from talking! It will vary from patient to patient how soon and by how far you will be able to open your mouth at first. I was on a pureed diet for quite a while but knew one person who was eating more or less as normal before she left hospital and another guy who was tucking into a big mac with ease after 2 weeks.

Operations seem different in the UK than the US with re banding. Of all the people I know personally who have had jaw surgery non have been banded or wired up after surgery.
