i think its so funny your name is brittany. i looked at your posting history (im not a stalker i just wanted to see if you had posted anything productive) and you love smoking and going to the tanning bed, wanna be a pop singer who relies on appearance to better the career, and not to mention you dont seem like the brightest bulb in the pack. your picture of your smile also reminded me of brittney (sp?) spears when i first saw it. maybe your name made me think of her, but the shape and smile and everything looks similar. and shes a niccotine addicted, tan, lip syncing airhead. maybe when everyones being so mean to you on here as you said they are you can get chris crocker to come tell everyone to "leave brittany alone!!!" but seriously lay off the smokes and tanning. you said you go tanning 3 times a week. you must look like a burnt orange by now. and smoking is a huge turn off for lots of guys.

OMG, this was just too funny a bit of comic relief - LOL!
Arvensis & Sleazy G you guys were so on it. So true about People react to smiles \ emotions and no one really notice things like bites (how someone bites w\ their teeth) as much as you do yourself because it's you living w\ it.
To say someone is ugly because of it is just wrong.

OH. MY. GOD.
I can hardly believe that this is not a joke! This thread is totally ridiculous!
Brittany, I'm guessing you posted this in the hopes that you would have the entire forum rallying against this orthodontist that "treated you horribly, and has no clue what she's talking about, blah blah blah."
BUT do you not realize that most of the people on this forum have either already had or will be having jaw surgery?? And therefore might have a slightly biased opinion TOWARDS surgery because they know the possible consequences of not having it and the all the benefits that it brings? And (most) people are extremely happy with what their orthodontists have done for them... So combine that with your attitude problem, and there isn't much reason for anyone here to side with you.
If this orthodontist was soooo wrong, then just drop it. SERIOUSLY. And if you are so concerned about your teeth, maybe you should try NOT smoking.. I can't imaginge that helping too much. That and the tanning bed.. all I can say is, bring on the premature aging

The smoking hasnt stained my teeth yet, and aging is really a hereditary thing. A majority of the women on both sides of my family have been major tanners and they all look really young for their age. Its all genetic so I dont have to worry too much.
And, I forgot who said the Britney Spears thing but no that isnt a picture of her, I have been told a lot that I look like her but I always thought it was my nose and eyes, and the fact that i'm blonde and have the name Brittany. But that isn't nice to say i'm not bright. Like how would you even know? You haven't met me.
But i'm not really too worried about the orthodontist anymore. Especially after seeing her score on better business bureau. I'm calmed down a lot from it.
I know people have had good results from the surgery. But there was usually something physical especially in the side profile that needed to be changed. I can tell that if my lower jaw went back more, I would look very strange. So if they did that to me I can guarentee it would change that part of my face for the worse.

I've got news for you: genes aren't going to help you out with this one. The more you tan and smoke, the faster you're going to wrinkle up.The smoking hasnt stained my teeth yet, and aging is really a hereditary thing. We've read enough of your posts to know that you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Sad, but true. I wouldn't be applying for Mensa membership if I were you. And, I forgot who said the Britney Spears thing but no that isnt a picture of her, I have been told a lot that I look like her but I always thought it was my nose and eyes, and the fact that i'm blonde and have the name Brittany. Well, at least that is something positive. Thank goodness for that. But i'm not really too worried about the orthodontist anymore. Especially after seeing her score on better business bureau. I'm calmed down a lot from it.
This statement only confirms that you're not too smart.I know people have had good results from the surgery. Its called common knowledge. I can just tell my jaw would NOT look good any further back. All the pictures of people ive seen who had surgery, and I look up pictures online and around here, theyre jaw stuck out somewhat, or they had a long face appearance, or the bottom lip was in front of the top one, or a combo of those things. I never saw one whose wasnt like that.
Lol I swear some people here are like surgery brainwashed. Sometimes its just obvious it wouldnt make someone look very nice.

Sorry, common knowledge is not going to help you out here either. If that were the case, dental professionals would cease to exist and the likes of you would be let loose on the unsuspecting public to wreak havoc on their health....god help us.
I'm seriously beginning to think that you're a troll, because no-one with half a grain of intelligence in their skull would be posting the garbage that you do.

Hey everyone I think we're being a bit harsh here. Not everyone is educated in the world of medicine/dentistry, on the other hand brittany you shouldn't make illogical statements when you have no idea or medical background.
With regards to your chin going further back, this won't necessarily be true. You need X-rays, CT scan etc before the doctor can even establish what surgery is required, if a surgery is required.
Secondly there is something known as cephalometric tracings. These tracings have been taken from thousands of people and average values have been obtained of what dimensions, lengths, angles the typical skeletal structure should be. When a Doctor decides orthodontics and surgery is required he or she will measure the dimensions of your face using a device known as a facebow.
What this all means is that they won't put your jaws anywhere, they have precise techniques to make sure everything is done accurately.
However what I'm worried about is you may have something known as body dysmorphia, in my opinion any smart and ethically correct dentist will have to first consider any psychological problems associated with your pursuit of beauty before allowing treatment to proceed.

Major tanners in the 1950s vs. major tanners in the present time is probably quite different. You're talking the long term effects of tanning beds vs. sunshine. Not to mention your genetics are max 1/2 of their genetics. Not to mention the Ozone layer was different when your relatives were younger. Not to mention a whole host of other factors that you don't know or understand yet. Not to mention that cigarrettes are more potent today than in the past (at least, "women's" cigs are - the ones that most women smoked in the 1950s/1960s had 1/2 the tobacco of today's cigs).brittany wrote:The smoking hasnt stained my teeth yet, and aging is really a hereditary thing. It isn't nice to say that your ortho looks manly or that you don't want an underbite because then you'd be ugly like all of us either, but that hasn't seemed to stop you.brittany wrote:But that isn't nice to say i'm not bright. Like how would you even know? You haven't met me.
Yes because we all know the kind of people who report orthos to the BBB for being less than perfect in their bedside manner.brittany wrote:But i'm not really too worried about the orthodontist anymore. Especially after seeing her score on better business bureau. I'm calmed down a lot from it.
There was nothing physical in the side profile for me that needed to be changed. I was happy with how I looked. I married a hot guy 4 years ago with my old face. I dated, I was pretty, I enjoyed life. I was even *gasp* in a major sorority in college and had a great time with the frat houses, my sisters, etc. Nothing about my face stopped me from having a life or being successful in that life, and I resent your implications of such.brittany wrote:I know people have had good results from the surgery. Granted, I like how I look now better than before, but this also has to do with chewing and my bite working. You don't even know for sure your lower jaw is to go back - you may need your upper brought forward like I did. You may have too big of cheeks because your upper isn't where it's supposed to be. You have no idea what it would look like, you cannot make such a guarantee. You can have opinions, of course, but this isn't about the physical - it's about longevity and having functional occlusion for your supposed genetically long and tanned life.
This isn't about teeth placement before braces. Before braces my lower jaw and upper jaw seemed to be in the right place, and it looked like my upper was in front of my lower jaw. That's because the teeth compensated for the problems I had, and this therefore compromised my bite. After braces, my lower teeth were 6 mm forward of my upper. That's because the lower teeth were crowded and once straightened out and no longer in a compromised position the discrepancy was visible.... sound familiar yet?brittany wrote:If you can find a picture of someone with an underbite whos lower jaw is behind their top jaw, ill leave right now and never come back.
P.S Surgery brainwashed? Wow. Love it. You are like so original and like my new like idol. For the record, I resisted the idea of surgery for 10 years before I could no longer ignore the potential benefits. Sorry for your own blinders to reality. I'm sure it's cozy there in your own little world this time of year.[/quote]
