Alternative to Le Forte

Hope I did this right. I did alternative to BSSO with sliding genioplasty because of my age (80) and also did alternative to LeForte for same reason. On June 24 I had gingevectomy and have been getting new crowns. Photos show upper jaw only. Am also getting lower arch done.

The spirit is fine. Thanks, Meryaten. All it took was the gingevectomy surgery at the same time as bone graft for molar implant, then 3 visits for the crowns totaling 13 hours. First 5 1/2 hours in dentist chair, then 3 1/2 hours, then 4 hours. It's the drilling in the top jaw that makes incredible vibration. Eleven teeth in top jaw.
Remember, all this work was compromise, alternative to more serious surgery plus an orthodontist.

Hey Helen,
You really are looking terrific! How's your sleep now? Since you are probably pretty well healed now, are you sleeping now? Did it work?

Brandy: No more snorting myself awake and apnea, no snoring.
This is what genioplasty does for some people.

A lot of work with all the dental crowns. Three hours in dentist chair yesterday, getting temporaries removed, more impressions, more x-rays, something called a face bow stuck in my ears and my mouth, permanents tried on, somebody squirting cold air on my bare teeth, owww, I think that's done to dry them. Doesn't anybody use warm air?

Another gingevectomy over one front tooth that needed it. Have appt. Oct. 3 and I hope that's the end of it. This dentist is so good and comes from Canada. And so does my oral surgeon, impressed with their good work.

I have a conference Sept. 24-28 up in Laguna Beach and hope no temporaries fall off, 65 miles from home. A few weeks ago, several fell off and it made me look like the guy in James Bond movies with big metal teeth, ugh.

These are temporaries. Permanent ones will be whiter. Not too bright though.

Holy Guacamole! You have been having some serious dental work done! You are one tough cookie! I hate sitting in the dentist's chair getting crowns done. Can't imagine three at a time...OUch!

Even with the temps your smile looks great though! and that is awesome that you are no longer snoring or having apnea's. What a blessing that must be huh?

Great sleep is so underrated, especially when you have experienced not having it first hand!

Sounds like you are doing terrific all the way around! I'm so happy for you!

Wishing you well!

Brandy: First day on teeth, I got 11 teeth done at a time. I had no idea what to expect since I had never done it before. Vibration in top jaw was the worst. Several months before this, the dentist said he could always give me Valium. I had no idea what he meant. Then he forgot. Then I learned what he had meant. But after I went through that first 11-teeth day I knew I could do it without any Valium.

What got to me about all this was not the discomfort. It was getting the right information about what to do. Getting a great oral surgeon took time. Getting referral to periodontal work took 3 orthodontists to get me there. Story of my life. And I see from some other people on this site that getting good referrals is half the battle.

As for my being tough, after living so much of my life with crooked this and crooked that, I would have gone through pretty much anything to fix it.
