Naked teeth! Photos added
I was de-braced this morning.
The Damon's came off withut a problem, but the assistant had a hard time taking off the ceramic Innovation C's; some broke and went flying as they were pried off. The glue was the hardest to remove. The scraping was like fingernails on a chalkboard. I can't say it was the most pleasant experience.
It was worth it once they were finally off. The teeth do feel smooth - almost fake. I am surprised at how white they are without all of the hardware and stained powerchains covering them.
I picked out the colours for the Hawley retainers. I went for violet with mother of pearl sparkles and an artist's palette and brush for the design. It will be bright and flashy. After all, I didn't get to have fun with ligatures and the only powerchains offered were clear and grey.
The retainers will be ready on Thursday and I go back in mid-December for records and to have the teeth shaped. My ortho likes them to settle before he shapes them.
It was fun grocery shopping today. I kept thinking "I can eat that, and this, oh and that too!". I'll post photos when there is better light to take them with. Well, off to admire the semicircles in my food!

Thanks Meryaten and Brendan!
Brendan, my ortho said that I would be de-braced 3-6 months after surgery, so it was pretty much on target. He had the teeth aligned and leveled before surgery, so the only thing left to do was place the jaws in their ideal positions. Also when bones are broken, prostaglandins are released to facilitate the repair process and remodel the bones. Lucky for us, the same prostaglandins move our teeth quickly too.

Thanks so much - all of you!!
It was so worth it to go through surgery and braces. I really should have done it 15 years ago. Tonight I went out for a bite to eat with friends and was able to eat chicken wings knowing they weren't stuck to brackets. Ah, the simple things in life...
Ema - Only one week left for you! How exciting. I can't wait to see your results.
Clo - Wow! I'm glad my photos are an inspiration to you. I really want to see you have a happy ending with your orthodontic treatment.
Thanks KarlClay- I read your blog before surgery. It was very helpful and truthful. Yet you still managed to keep a sense of humour through all of it.
