I'm sooooo excited...... I have a date, finally!!!
Firstly thank god this board is up and running for posting!
Ok so I had an app with my ortho & surgeon on 9th Dec, they both agreed i was ready for surgery & i had a chat with the surgeon to go over a few details.
He was a lot more relaxed about all the things i was worried about than i expected. He said I'd probably only be in hospital for 2 and a half days (for upper & lower surgery) so I guess i got myself worked up a bit too much.
He also said i won't have a splint wahoo!!!!! I was dreading the thought of needing one and for as long as 2 weeks like some have had it for.
The technicalities: I will end up with an overbite of 2mm and an overjet of 9mm. I have slight assymetry on the right side of my lower jaw i think he said. I'll have a total movement of about 1cm or there abouts.
He wasn't at all specific about when i could go back to work, just when i felt ready and well enough.
I then had an app on 23rd Dec and had my surgical hooks put on, 6 on top and 6 on the bottom. They aren't that bad, just the lower ones hook on my lip, so wax is a life saver at the moment!!
I was told they were looking at end of Jan time but as it happens, my surgeon is away around the time i would need my post op review. So had to be put back.
So my date is 25th FEB 09, about 4 1/2 or 5 weeks away ahhhh!
So i am feeling anxious but happy, i think the time will fly as it has the last few months. Bit nervous cos i feel sooo unprepared but i have this fab board to help me.
Thanking you for all your support over the last 2 years!!

I keep getting butterflies every now and then, feels like forever waiting to hear those words, 'we have a date for your surgery'.
How are you coming along? You getting your hooks on soon?

What type of surgery are you having? It seems odd to me that you will end up with an overbite and overjet...isn't that what they would be trying to fix? I know some things are not 100% fixable, but a 9mm overjet seems like a lot!
(Congrats on being so close though! )

I have a an underbite of over 1 cm plus asymmetry on my lower jaw and a crossbite. I'm having my lower jaw moved back and the asymmetry corrected and the upper jaw moved forward several mil.
The overbite and overjet is what everyone with a correct bite has but the 9mm is the measurement i will end up with, that is normal i was told for an overjet.
Thanks to you both im relieved more than anything.
What are both you situations with braces and surgery??

Thanks Blindboarder!!!! The hooks don't really hurt, it feels like there's tons more metal in your mouth for the first couple of days but it's not that bad.
I had a lower hook that was rubbing on my lip but wax helps.
Other than that it's ok.
What are you having done, are you close to getting your hooks on then?

oh okay then thatz good then, i have to get upper and lower jaw surgery done (not sure of the exact scientific terms but i can describe it lol). basically my two jaws are very misaligned, i have a pretty bad overbite. my one jaw is alot smaller then the other jaw so they are going to fix that. as well i have quite a bit of crowding on the bottom. They are going to pushing my upper arch forward and my bottom arch a bit backwards. Adding metal screws and a plate for healing and stability purposes. I have to have my mouth wired shut for 6 weeks therefore i'll be on a liquid diet which kinda sucks but my sis had to get pretty well the same thing done. I live with my mom still as its definetly a lot cheaper as a college student so mom will be helping me after my surgery! Thank goodness! as stated above my sister had to go through jaw surgery as well so mom already pretty skilled and knowledgeable about different recipes and such.
