Surgery tomorrow ahhhhh!!
Ok am really scared now, having upper & lower tomorrow & im petrified!!
I am due to be at the hospital at 7:30am so i will have to be up around 5:45am to get everything ready to take with me & it's about a 40 minute journey. Think the drive will be the worst part as far as my nerves go but mum is driving me so at least i will have her to relax me
I have my blender & i'm picking up some arnica cream today (after reading on here it's good for the swelling / bruising). But my mind has gone blank & I can't think what else i will need.....???
This op has come round soooo quick I feel kinda unprepared but hopefully i have all the essentials!
Thank you to everyone for all your support & kind words. This board has been a god send in so many ways!!
Good Luck to anyone else who is having surgery soon, wishing you all the best for a smooth & easy recovery.
Thanks again,
Beth xx

I wish you well.....I understand how this all seems so sudden. I'm three months away and wish it were tomorrow but then when I'm where you are....I'll wish it were three months away!
I know I'm prepared and yet I'm not prepared. Does that sound familiar?
I hope your recovery is quick, bruising mild and the smile great!

Hey I'm back, thank you to everyone for all your lovely messages!!
I got to the hospital wed around 7:45am & was taken into a room full of people where we all had to wait. There was a mix of day stay patients & patients staying over night. One by one they were called up & taken down to theatre. I was called to get my wristband & was weighed etc, had no blood taken though.....
Then after about 5 hours i was told i was actually last on the list for today & the nurse who sent out the letters (who had gone on holiday straight afterwards) had made a mistake & i didnt need to be in til 11am. I starved myself all day that was the hardest part haha.
So I spoke to the surgeon about 1 pm & he went over the details briefly then introduced me to another surgeon, a lady from london who had come over to do the surgery with him. They have done over 50 of these surgeries together & apparently she is very good!! They told me it would take around 5 hours to do but I later found out they did it in 3 hours! My surgeon told me the less time spent in surgery, the less swelling so i was very happy about that!
I waited around til almost 3pm, took several walks, trying to avoid all smells of coffee & food, then a nurse called me & said they had a bed, finally after 7 hours!
I wandered over, got undressed into the gown & didnt hear anytrhing til half 3. A porter turned up with another nurse to take me down to theatre, my nerves had disappeared after the amount of sitting around i did which i think was a good thing cos i was calmer.
I was wheeled into the anaesthethic room, put to sleep & woke up in recovery a few hours later.
I was in a bit of pain but the nurse said she couldn't give me any more morphine cos i was too sleepy. So they took me back to the ward where i attempted to wake up, mum turned up a while later & i spoke for a bit. That was weird, i wasn't sure if i could speak but i didnt think about it then cos i was so out of it!!
Had a sleepless night, awake every hour on the hour, needed painkillers & had lots of nausea which is the worst thing for me!
The next day the swelling was up more but i felt 10 times better, had some strawberry mousse for breakfast & soup for lunch & dinner.
The swelling inside my mouth is not so pleasant, my palate is v swollen & the inside of my cheeks are bluging through my teeth. It's a strange feeling & stiff. I can fit 2 fingers in my mouth & seem to be able to take tablets without any problems.
I thought after the surgery i would wake up with blood in my throat, blood clots etc but i had none of that. They did such a neat job there was nothing to complain about!! I can see the stitches on my upper gum if i lift up my lip & i also have stitches where my wisdoms used to be so nothing major and i can brush my teeth fairly freely which is great!
Had a rough night thursday being kept awake by the nurses doing everyones blood pressure & where the iv had been out in my hand was v painful keeping my awake. I did manage to almost faint twice in the toilet, scary but the nurses were on hand to sort me out
I had to have the iv taken out of my hand as it had severed a blolod vessel & was running along the bone, not comfortable. So a doctor spent 10 minutes trying to put another one in my right hand but that didnt work, so eventually had one put in my right arm, again painful.I had antibiotics & steroids etc put through that along with a drip.
I came home about 3pm yesterday, had some blended food & sat around watching tv. I slept a lot which made me a bit restless, had a weird night sleep last night being in my own bed but it's good to be home!
I will update soon, but the best feeling of all is that my underbite is gone for good i am soooo happy. Just need the swelling to go down some more so i can see my face shape better.
Hope everyones else is doing ok, thanks again for your support!

Hey lefortsg, yeh i saw ur post, sounds like u had a rough time of it!! Really sorry to hear that, i was kind of lucky i guess cos things have been fairly smooth since the word go.
Couldn't imagine not taking painkillers....i was taking morphine through a syringe until the night before i left hospital. Now taking tablets, one of which is so disgusting, the taste on my tongue makes me gag!!
Hope things get better for you, take it easy these next few days, hope it gets easier for you!!

hey beth the pain phase for me is almost over. I'm so unlucky to be allergied to the most normal painkillers available. I've stopped taking pain killers already and been able to continue with daily activities now. How are you doing? Its pasta for me this afternoon^^ I can't wait yummy yummy for my tummy tummy.
Hey lefortsg, glad you are not suffering so bad with pain now that must have been terrible!!! Yes v unlucky to have an allergy to the one thing that helps you through this!
I am taking my antibiotics (amoxicillin) and ibuprofen to help with the permenant ache in my face. Im also meant to be taking another antibiotic i think which helps with infection, called Metronidazole, it's so foul tasting i can't physically put it in my mouth. The first time i swallowed it i almost threw up so am going to my GP tomorrow to get something else.
Pasta sounds good, are your teeth touching then? I haven't managed to chew anything yet cos only my front teeth meet. So i've been blending food like had shepherds pie last night & im eating yoghurts, soup etc most days.
How much can you open your mouth?
Are you very swollen?
