How long till I can go back to work?

#1 Post by Tlwood99 »

So I'm an accountant. No physical labor but I need to be able to go back to work within a reasonable amount of time. How long for you adults out there after having surgery on both jaws before you could go back to a desk job?

I had surgery on August 4th. I could have done work last week if there was no talking, and I could definitely work this week if I needed to. I could do minimal talking this week. I'm still banded and splinted, though, so I can't really talk that much or that well. I'm a teacher, so I'll probably not go back until I get the splint out.

I had a bimaxillary osteotomy (upper and lower jaws) on 3rd August. If my job didn't involve talking, then I'd be back in work today, as I feel fine in myself. However as my teeth are still banded shut, I can't.

I'm hoping that the bands will be loosened tomorrow, putting me on soft foods and meaning that I can at least make myself understood. In which case I'll probably go back in next Monday (24th August).

I had double jaw surgery back in January and took 2 weeks off. I deliver mail (very physical job) so I went back to light duty for several more weeks, but even that was a bit more strenuous than a "desk job". Everyone heals differently, but you'll be suprised how quickly your body recovers from surgery. Good luck!

I had upper jaw surgery on July 22 and have been splinted and wired since then. I'm a realtor and appraiser and I'm working from home. Since I can't talk, I am very limited in what I can do at work so there is no point in going in. I am working from home and using email to keep in touch with clients.

I had surgery August 4th as well (upper and genio) and would have been ok to return to work today (as it was, I did go in for a bit even though I don't have to go back to the office till next week. I did plan for 3 weeks out of the office (working at home part time for the third week) and warned that I didn't know if I'd be talking the first week back (since I talk on the phone all day normally at work). Basically, prepare for the worst, but expect the best.

I had double jaw surgery and went back to work, walking about 8 dogs a day, after 2 weeks. Energy was pretty good.
