#1 Post by elliew »

So...sleep still sucks! Yesterday I started with an overwhelming urge to
yawn!!!!! I still feel as though I need to yawn. Anyone else? I think it is
my body trying to stretch my jaw muscles....or maybe its die to sleep deprivation  anyone have a trick ot get rid of the yawns?????
Is it like hiccups??? thanks

It does seem to stretch the muscles. I can open almost as wide before (except it doesn't dislocate anymore).

Its amazing some of the simple things I take for granted. I thought yawning was a god-given right.

My body has tried to yawn so many times since surgery. Unfortunately the splint and wires holding my jaws together has different ideas :D

I'm 4.2 days post op and yawning now isn't as bad, but if I do it too much it hurts bad again. In the first 2 weeks post op yawning was excruitiating. When I try to open my mouth, it FEELS like I'm opening really wide but when I check in the mirror, I'm getting MAYBE 2 inches open lol I find gently pushing on my jaw "hinges" during a yawn helps a lot the most discomfort I experience is in my lower jaw during a big yawn, not my upper jaw.

another point to add re yawning after surgery is that I found when i have the elastics on, it doesn't seem to hurt as bad verses when there off, laughing isn't so fun either post op initially although they say its the best medicine.

Who would have known a yawn could be so damn painful?
