X-Rays before surgery... when??

#1 Post by marycotter5678 »

My OS took records (x-rays, etc) at our consultation a couple months ago. But I will be ready for surgery in about 6 months. Does that mean they will have to take new x-rays before surgery date? If so, how soon before surgery do they take the x-rays? Is it like a week before surgery, a month??

My ortho took a pano (the long one) when he thought I was ready. I have small roots on teeth 20-24 so he also took a pano at my 6 mont marc. My OS also took a pano (he has digital x rays) when the Ortho said I was ready, and he also took a ceph (the skeletal one)

Thanks for responding. I was just wondering because my orthodontist still didn't mention me making an appt with the OS and I'm supposed to be ready by April.

They won't schedule you in to see the surgeon again till you're much closer to surgery. About six weeks before I would be ready my ortho called the surgeon to set up a date for surgery and then they called back with an appointment to see the surgeon two weeks before the surgery date. They won't schedule things this far out because something might come up - you might end up taking more or less time for the required movement and once the date is set they don't like to reschedule.

I've had full records done with my Ortho (x-rays, pictures, impressions, measurements) 6mo. pre-op, 2 mo. pre-op, and with surgery next week I will have them with my OS two days prior to surgery. I was supposed to have them done with my Ortho this week (on top of having them with my OS next week) but she got sick and didn't want to risk getting me sick prior to my surgery.
